Hehe. It's not "spilling the beans" if you already have a (large) public Pinterest board dedicated to it! ;P (Thank you again for being Ms. January!)

Listening to "Content and Marketing Trends in 2015" in +Copyblogger's Authority and +Brian Clark just said "There's no such thing as a 12-month content plan."

All the hours I spent convincing clients to treat their content plan as a living document just got validated. Thank you, Brian!

There's always room for new ideas. For old ideas to get new life. For one idea to turn into five. Heck, I'd even as far as saying you only really need a handful of content ideas. You can spend the rest of the year expanding / rehashing / re-purposing them and reap the benefits.

Back in November, I'd promised myself I'd make 2015 the year I learned new skills that weren't related to writing (not directly anyway).

But it took this post (http://primility.com/new-here-resolution/) by +Jerod Morris to make me realize that there wasn't a good reason to wait for January. Which is why I've spent December learning to:

- Sew. Thanks to Pinterest and the fact that I can never find clothes that fit me well, this is more by necessity than anything else. The spawn is in seventh heaven because I'm learning through small projects that I sew and pass on to her.

- Illustrate. It started with my wish to create personalized gifts for friends and family. +Canva  has been a huge help and inspiration but now I'm getting slightly more ambitious.

- Write a children's story. This wasn't in the plan but God bless friends who want to do random creative activities. The story itself isn't anything to write home about but it rhymes so that's something.

- Doodle. Apparently my fingers only know how to write and my brain can only imagine words. I can't draw to save my life. I started with copying doodles I liked online to learn basic shapes and can now draw illustrations by looking at them. I might never be able to draw through imagination alone, but at least I'll learn enough to create rudimentary stuff.

2015 will no longer be the year I learn new things. Instead it's going to be the year in which I do more and procrastinate less. Write more and read less. Create more and worry about it being any good less.
We’re less than a month away from New Year’s Eve, which means many of you have probably started fantasizing about your New Year’s Resolutions. How do I know this? Because I have. And you and me … we’re a lot alike. And what we think we love about New Year’s Resolutions, and what we actually …

Why You Need to Choose Between Success and Popularity

“Do you want to be popular or do you want to make money?”

When James asked me that, I was flabbergasted.

What did she mean? Aren’t they the same thing?

If you’re popular, you’re already successful. At the very least, you have to be popular before you can be successful. Right?

Turns out, like millions of freelance writers out there, I was wrong. (And James, as always, was right. But let’s not tell her that.)

How to Turn a Prospect into a Paying Customer by +James Chartrand

There are people who agree with what you’re doing – and there are people who believe that you’re the only one who can do it right.

Paying clients don’t come from the first category.

The Freelance Writer's Manifesto We All Need (Poster)

When it comes to freelancing, I believe in a few principles that guide my writing business on a daily basis.

Over the years I’ve called them many things – guiding principles, golden rules, affirmations, to name just a few.

They’ve helped me keep my head straight during the highs of my career and sustained me through the lows.

Today, I turn these principles into a manifesto and offer them to you.

You can download it, share it, print it – even embed it on your site if you want.

Whatever you do – USE this manifesto. Let it help you make a success of your freelance business.

If you've ever thought there was only one road to freelancing success - think again.

Find your own freelance work style (and perhaps even double your income)...
Are you trying to figure out how you should start (or kick-start) your writing career? Should you freelance full-time? Is it better if you freelance alongside your day job until you get your foot in the door? Maybe you’d rather hold two types of freelance jobs... like me.
