Rose is one of my favorite poetry books. Li-Young Lee first won me over with The City in Which I Love You, but Rose is perhaps even better.

"The Gift" seems a good one for Father's Day weekend, full of tenderness for one's father. A father's role in our lives, when it goes well, is so often about practical help: fixing things, problem solving, making us feel rescued, caring through doing. This poem reminds me to appreciate my own father.
