You will need a sharp razor blade. Use caution and don't cut yourself. Do not attempt this if you are worried about screwing up your case. Take your time. You will be making 2 horizontal cuts along the power and volume buttons. The result is a tactile feel similar to having no case on at all and you can take screenshots EVERY time with ease. If you do it right, you cannot see that the case was hacked.
I'd like to start with some back story before I get into the hack, but if you want to skip straight to the hack, scroll down to the bold HACK title.
Screenshots. The only drawback to the Nexus Branded and Adopted Branded 6P cases. All the reviews say the same thing. Greatest case ever, as long as you don't want to take screenshots.
For those of you that don't know, trying to press Volume Down and Power simultaneously would more often take a bug report or cycle volume up and then back down than actually take a screenshot.
I've been practicing and if you are very gentle you can take a screenshot every time, but I miss the tactile feel of the power and volume buttons. So I wanted to hack my case. I was originally going to just cut the raised buttons completely off the case but wanted to try something first. What I did worked so well I'm sticking with it.
Start by looking at the attached photos to acquaint yourself with the process. It is fairly simple. Start by making a slow cut along the volume button. Do not try to force the razor blade through on the first slice. Make repeated, slow strokes from one side to the other until the blade cuts through. When it does, gently slide the razor blade along the volume rocker. Don't cut past the rounded corner of the button.
Repeat this process on the other side of the button and then move to the power button. Use extra caution on the power button. Because it is smaller, it is easier for the blade to run away on you and cut too far.
You will see a picture of the razor blade stuck through both horizontal cuts. This is just an example of the completed result. I tried to take a couple pics to show off the horizontal cuts.
And that's it. You are done. You made 4 small incisions in the case that can only be seen if you pry at the buttons. Squeeze your 6P back in the case and revel in the tactile glory of fully responsive buttons and immediate gratification of taking screenshot after screenshot without triggering a bug report or cycling the volume.
