Great read about workplace interaction and how a little gratitude goes a long way.
My client acquired a large company and I went along for his initial meetings with his new employees. In the afternoon he planned a company-wide address. That morning we met for several hours with top executives. (Talk about emotions on full display: ego, anxiety, obsequiousness, defensiveness, fear, excitement… when the new sheriff comes to town all the icy-cool corporate masks quickly come off.)The meeting ended at noon and when we walked out fif...

Pretty damn good battery life, if I do say so.

SGS4 running AntaresOne's lollipop with a 9000 mAh Hyperion battery.

This was a single charge. The ups are the phone realizing it has more battery than it originally thought.

Still no app usage, only services draining that battery lol. On my S3 when I had the 7000mAh zerolemon I could hit 16 hours sot with medium usage.

For anyone who might have young kids who are interested in learning to code, this is a pretty neat site. Learn to code with basic building blocks and help Elsa and Anna make complex shapes in the ice!

Wikipedia's annual donation to keep their information and content ad-free. If everyone gave $3 they'd apparently be set within the hour. Worth checking out, especially if you're a Wikipedia frequenter such as myself.

A smart watch I could really get behind. 60 days of battery life and all the necessary features of any other watch. I hope Sony goes through with this.

For those of you with rooted android phones, I started using this and it has increased my battery life dramatically. I've been able to use my phone much more aggressively between charges, I live it, its phenomenal. Try it out! Also be sure to take a look at other xposed codes!

I was tired of Google Play Services wasting my battery by waking up my device every 60 seconds, then KEEPING it awake for 15 seconds with wakelocks. Rathe…

The creator of the pop up ad apologizes for creating something so evil.

"The model that got us acquired was analyzing users’ personal homepages so we could better target ads to them. Along the way, we ended up creating one of the most hated tools in the advertiser’s toolkit: the pop-up ad. I wrote the code to launch the window and run an ad in it. I’m sorry. Our intentions were good."
It's not too late to ditch the ad-based business model and build a better web.

A hell of a way to start Thursday.

#netnutrality #win #savetheinternet
This is what democracy looks like. That's not something I thought I'd ever say about the bureaucrats at the Federal Communications Commission. After years of cronyism, corruption and cowardice, Thursday's vote for strong Net Neutrality rules at the F...

The 2014 Tool Box

I've used each of these thoughout the years, except the biggest one.  However, I do now own one of those big ones.  I'd bet it still works, if I could get a power supply big enough to get it spinning.

I'll be doing my first server migration sometime next week and I was hoping I could get some tips or ideas on what to look for. I've helped migrate personal computers before, but never a server.

I'm already digging through technet's tips, tricks and migration guides but if anyone can suggest another resource or some way to do this right the first time without losing anything I would be forever grateful.

Finally, I'm not certain yet what OS either the old or new servers are. I'm waiting to hear back from the client about it. I'm expecting to migrate from 2003 or 2008 up to 2012 or so.

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I've got a lot of learning to do before we tackle the migration.

Another quick question though: I just found out that there will only be 17 users accessing this server. But at the same time, there are 27 devices attaching to it. Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials allows "Up to 25 users" while Standard has access for users/devices based on CALs. Which version should we be looking at purchasing for this? Will Essentials work since it's only 17 users? Or do we need to up to Standard because there are more than 25 devices attaching to it?
