+Bradley Horowitz +Sergey Brin +Larry Page ...

How cool would it be to have the parking lot at Google filled with these? Not to mention snow free sidewalks... being able to charge all your electric cars in said parking lot by induction... and countless other applications? I bet you could run Google Fiber through them to reach a HUGE consumer base who would choose you over the cable conglomerates. (just sayin')

(including but not limited to reasserting your role as the absolute coolest company on the planet 'paving' the way to a future without fossil fuels and being able to put on a killer light show in the process)

#innovation   #coolbeyondwords

Just file this under "Thank you little Google+ user who is annoying me but I'll tolerate you because you're just slightly more awesome than you are annoying"

Because of the self taught nature of much of the mathematics I know, I can relate to solving problems this way...and it's always easier to explain to non mathematicians.

An interesting article, but I am linking it mostly for the impressive use of animated images to effectively convey mathematical intuition (in this case, an intuitive understanding of integration, of solving equations, and of the phase space approach to solving ODEs). (Via Michael Lugo.)

Pakistan has decided that internet censorship is unconstitutional while the rest of the world works on passing laws like #ACTA and #CISPA .

Bit of irony there, don't you think?

The thing I've noticed on this trend is that when people no longer have the crutch of hiding behind their phones they avoid social situations which they were bored with in the first place...and find ones that engage them sufficiently so they don't need the distraction of their device.

Introducing a new game called:

"Don't Be Anti-Social During Meals With Friends."

Everyone puts their phones in the middle of the table. Whoever cracks first by touching their phone, pays for the entire meal.

The purpose of the game was to get everyone off their phones, away from twitter, facebook, texting, etc and to encourage conversations. In other words, help cure the "Anti-Social Social Media Craziness."

Rules:

1) The game starts after everyone sits down.

2) Everybody places their phone in the middle of the table.

3) The first person to touch their phone loses the game.

4) Loser of the game pays the bill for everyone's meal.

5) If the bill comes before anyone has touched their phone, everybody is declared a winner and pays for their own meal.

We had a blast. Conversation rocked. Everyone loved it.

Are You Game? Are you willing to turn the tide of anti-social behavior? What do you think?!?

This has to be the best creation from The Oatmeal so far. And Nikola Tesla was indeed the greatest geek, he is the inventor who I admire the most.

Nice! Accessible explanation of political systems and why the way you count the votes dictates much of the way the system functions.

Filling in my vote for Mayor of London, which uses a not great form of AV, but is still much better than the FPTP: The Problems with First Past the Post Voting Explained

How America is making Mexico fat.

The US government's food policy is geared almost entirely to producing the maximum number of calories at the minimum price.

Taxpayer funded subsidies for the industries that produce sugar, meat, corn and soy (but not for nutritious foods) has driven down the market price (but not the actual price) of junk food, candy and soda for years, fueling America's trillion-dollar obesity- and diabetes-driven health crisis.

But according to a new study called "Exporting Obesity" by the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, has enabled Mexico to get in on America's cheap calories.

The costs of these staples has changed what's available in Mexican supermarkets, and how much it costs for consumers to buy.

As a result, the calories Mexicans get from fat in their diet rose nearly 30 percent in just 11 years, from 1988 to 1999.

The consumption of soft drinks in Mexico rose by 37% from 1984 to 1998.

It's time for American taxpayers to stop paying for the junk-food industry's corporate welfare.

Please do raise your children bilingual. Learning a second language as an adult is a major pain in the Antarctic regions (read: ass).
