Sometimes, there's a need for some high-class corporate gobbledygook. Gus Hedges from TV's Drop the Dead Donkey was a true master. Here's some of his best work.

Day #3 of my resolution to blog for 30 says and it's time to wallow in nostalgia, remembering the first time I discovered the web. Remember yours?
<tl;dr> Where were you the first time? What did you think? Did you have an inkling of what would happen? I was cleaning out the loft recently and came across this CD promising 200 hours of rfree Internet. It got me... [read more]

Something I wrote about New Year's resolutions and writing. Does anyone use G+ any more? Posting out of legacy interest!
My New Year's resolution is to try and write a blog post, or something not entirely work-related every day for 30 days. Some simple, and slightly questionable maths1, leads me to the conclusion that all those emails, documents, reports, proposals, instant messages, Facebook updates ...

Unless you have a penchant for number crunching and government-related form-filling, tax returns, VAT returns, cashflow forecasts, balance sheets are probably tasks that you'd like to delegate. Let us not forget the UK's record-breaking 17000 page tax code. To run a successful business, ...

A potty-mouthed blog post for the next edition of my New Year's resolution to write (nearly) every day. An exploration of swearing and the science of how it might actually be good for us...
<tl;dr> Swearing can be good for your health. And happiness. It’s day 6 of my New Year’s resolution to try writing a post a day for 30 (working) days. To be honest, I’m struggling, so this might be an every-other-day... [read more]

Utter pedantry in this latest post aka why I get annoyed it's so difficult to pay for stuff in online stores. Argh. Day #5 (slightly delayed) of my New Year's resolution to write every (working) day for a month.
Online retailers work so hard to get you to buy, then administer a swift kick to the shins when it comes to payment. My New Year's resolution to wrote each day is being sorely tested, mainly by Making a Murderer and the compulsion to keep watching. Curse you Netflix.

Day #4 of my New Year's resolution writing experiment and today I'm exploring the power of please, thank you and the science that says, yup, being polite really works.
Saying please and thank you really works. Actual real-life professors say so. Not only do you get a better response, but it's good for you, too. I am definitely a novice at this whole parenting thing. Another parenting triumph #dadfail pic.twitter.com/HtgPY417pA ...

Something a little more work related for day #2 of my New Year's resolution to write for 30 days. Still irks me that Twitter zapped the counts from their share buttons. And I think it's hurting them, too.
Social Proof of Twitter Buttons Is Out For The Count. January 6, 2016 · by Sam Michel · in Marketing, Social. Twitter buttons stopped showing how many times a page is shared damaging social proof and potentially their own growth.

Experienced digital marketer, content specialist, community and social media-type that's worked agency-side, client-side, startup-side, a lot of sides and enjoyed them all. 18 years (gulp!) experience and still fascinated by the changes digital and social are bringing to business, marketing and society.

What a fantastic experience - and how often do you get to say that about a garage? - super-speedy response to my initial queries. Got a call 10 mins after they started working on the car, which I thought meant bad news, but no, they let me know that previous advice from Kwik Fit recommending all brake pads and disks needed changing was complete overkill and only the front needed doing. Cut the bill by 50%. Not only that but the staff were fantastic and gave me and my son a lift to the nearby Designer Outlet Centre to while away a couple of hours while we waited, and picked us up when the car was done. Outstanding service. I'd highly recommend them.
