Huge news! Segments Live now has a FREE version available on the Play Store, and the Premium version is now only 2,99!

The Premium version adds Offline Mode and Voice Updates.

With Offline Mode, you can download your starred segments on your home wifi, and then ride without Internet connectivity.

With Voice Updates, you get periodic updates on the segments you are currently riding, that tell you your PR and KOM/QOM gaps. That way you don't need to mount the phone to the handlebar.

The free app only gets Voice Announcements when segments start and end.

So if you haven't tried Segments Live yet, now it's the perfect opportunity!

First day, and the response seems positive! Many people have already asked to join the beta phase.

Let us clear something up. A common question seems to be: how is Segments Live different from Strava's "Real-time segments" feature for Pro accounts?

The difference is simple: Strava's app merely lets you see your segment time as soon as it's completed, before you get home. Segments Live instead does a second-by-second tracking of your performance, giving you accurate gap times from your PR and the KOM, so you can see how you're doing on the segment AS YOU RIDE IT, and not simply after you've completed it.

Looking forward to seeing you crush your PRs thanks to Segments Live (and your hard training, of course!)

Are you on Strava and like to challenge yourself and others on segments? Check this out!

Fellow cyclists,
we are very excited to announce the initial Beta release of a new Android app called Segments Live. If you are on Strava, and like to challenge yourself on segments, Segments Live is for you.

How does it work?
Segments Live uses your GPS location to track your progress on Strava segments in real-time! The simple and intuitive UI will show you your progress through the segment against “ghost” riders for your current PR and the segment’s KOM.

Segments Live needs virtually no setup. Just start the app and go for a ride: it will automatically detect when you are on a Strava segment and start tracking it. Whether you want to improve your PR or go for a KOM, Segments Live can help you reach your goals!

How can you use it?
You can either mount your phone to your handlebar to look at the gap times, or wear an ear bud to hear audio commentary about your segment progress.

Dear all,
I'm really happy to announce that after careful consideration, I have decided to open source AstroBin.

The source code available at the following BitBucket repository: https://bitbucket.org/siovene/astrobin/src/.

The code is licensed under the Affero General Public License.

I will personally coordinate the efforts of the people willing to contribute. I came to realize that the list of things that need to be done is much larger than what I can do by myself, so it's for the best to put it all in the hands of the community.

The issue list is vast, as it's visible on BitBucket.

Please get in touch if you wish to contribute, and together we can make AstroBin better and better!

Salvatore.

Now that AstroBin is open source, improving the installation process is paramount. I'm working on integrating Vagrant - http://www.vagrantup.com/ - a great way to encapsulate the whole development environment in an easy to use virtual machine.
The installation process will go from following a long script to a single command!
Track the progress at https://bitbucket.org/siovene/astrobin/issue/256/take-vagrant-into-use and feel free to help or pick up other bugs or features!

This is what your "Completed segments" pane looks like when you got some PRs. Segments Live works :)
