5 Things You Must do When you Visit Salcombe

There is a huge amount of things to do in Salcombe.
Here are our top 5:

1. Jump onto the South Sands Ferry (blue and yellow with bunting) over to South Sands for beach action, paddle boarding and kayaking. Walk or get the ferry back again.

2. Buy a crabbing line, bucket and bacon. Sit down on the waters edge and reel in those cunning crustaceans!

3. Walk along the coast keeping the sea to your left. After 15 minutes of stunning scenery you will reach North Sands - a beach with the awesome cafe/restaurant called the Winking Prawn.

4. Organise a picnic and take the ferry across to the other side of the estuary where you will find plenty of beaches. Chill out, build a sandcastle, go for a swim, build a dam or play a bit of cricket.

5. Go on a culinary tour of Salcombe starting with an epic bacon sandwich from the Salcombe Coffee Company, mid-morning coffee at The Wardroom overlooking the water. Lunch at The Jetty, afternoon cream tea at the South Sands Hotel and finally supper at The Winking Prawn.

Happy holidays! xx

Top 5 family friendly activities for New Year:

1. Drive to Bigbury on Sea and walk across the spit for a hot chocolate in the Pilchard Inn. Take a frisbee or kite for a fun activity on the beach.
2. Head over to the beaches at East Portlemouth on the ferry (it runs in the winter months from Whitestrand pontoon) and collect flotsam and jetsam to write ‘Salcombe’ as big as you can in the sand.
3. Head to the right hand side of Mill Bay (the really big beach in Salcombe) and find the streams to make the biggest dam ever.
4. Go crabbing along Victoria Quay. Remember that you’re more likely to catch a crustacean when the tide is coming in!
5. Make a beeline for Cranch’s Sweetshop to top up sugar levels with their traditional penny sweets and classic bonbons.

Top 5 things to do on New Years Day in Salcombe:

1. Blow away the cobwebs with a swim in the sea at North Sands! The cold might knock your socks off especially if done without a wetsuit but it’s one way to rid yourself of a hangover and a sure fire way of earning a warm drink in the Winking Prawn afterwards.
2. Settle into a comfy sofa at The Victoria Inn and relax with the papers. Remember that the pub is super dog friendly and even have the A La Bark menu to cater for canines.
3. Go on a beautiful coastal walk to Gara Rock to clear the head and enjoy one of their delicious homemade cakes or have a yummy lunch.
4. If you’re feeling brave, head to the Fortescue Inn for hair of the dog!
5. Book in for some shooting with the Salcombe Shooting School.
