Happy feast of St Isidore!

http://www.saintnook.com/saints/isidoreofseville/

As bishop in Spain during the twilight of the Roman empire, Isidore championed education and literacy among religious and laity alike. His focus was to weld a new nation from the various peoples of the Hispano-Gothic kingdom. He enforced religious discipline and clarity of religious understanding, rooted out Arianism and heresy, and presided over multiple Church councils. As the 'Last Christian Philosopher', he is the first Christian to have started an encyclopedia to preserve the best of past and present. He is credited with having saved a nation from illiteracy and barbarism.
