Latest news: Thrift Treasure: Giant Spoons - When I think back to the entertainment of my childhood, there are a lot of things that come to mind. I was active in hardball and later softball, 4-H, played outside, danced and played board games. But the one activity that rises to the surface more often than not is gathering around a wooden cable spool table to play cards. Whether it was just our family or extended family and friends over for a gathering, that table was the center of the action...
The retro game, Spoons, got a giant upgrade. Literally. Giant Spoons game offers the same play with a larger than life component.

Latest news: It’s Time to Put on Your Own Play - Last summer my daughters decided they wanted to participate in the local drama summer camp. Only two weeks of preparation yielded a stunning performance of Schoolhouse Rock. It was amazing all the things they learned during those ten full days of building sets, studying lines, rehearsing and discovering all things theater. They had so much fun, drama camp was on the top of their lists of things to do this year. We’re looking forward to seeing...
With our daughters being bit hard by the acting bug, Histrio by Asmodee promised to keep them performing, even during the off-season!

Latest news: It’s Time to Rustle Some Cattle - We get great joy when we see game companies grow and expand into new markets and game types. When a company is known for producing solid titles in one genre and then take a chance at a whole new line, well…it takes guts. If what we’ve seen from the latest offering from Blue Orange Games is a sign of things to come, then it appears they’re headed in the right direction. You may recognize Blue Orange Games from their crazy-popular line of Spot-It...

Latest news: Thrift Treasure: Dragon Strike - When we find a battery-operated game at thrift stores, we typically take a pass on them. Adding electronics to the mix just adds another thing that can go wrong and usually we are unable to test them in the store before purchase. Sometimes the batteries have corroded, making the contacts unusable. Other times it is a mystery why they don’t work, and I am no electronics engineer. But for this week’s Thrift Treasure, I couldn’t pass on the theme. ...
Although we normally pass on battery-operated board games, Dragon Strike by Milton Bradley had such a cute dragon, we couldn't resist!

Latest news: Those Flipping Flags - A few weeks ago we went to a local trivia night with some of our board game friends. One of the subjects was flags. Specifically, current flags from countries around the world. When I was in middle school I lived in Europe, so I figured I had that part of the world covered. Unfortunately only one of the flags was from the area, the rest were from other continents. The rest of us were as dumbfounded as I was. The most exposure any of us had to country flag...
We wish we had beefed up our flag knowledge before trivia night. Flipping Flags by R&R Games sure would have done the trick!

Latest news: Overwatch – Her (Our) Latest Addiction - I was one of “those people” who stood in line back in 2004 to be one of the first people to be able to play World of Warcraft by Blizzard Entertainment. Ok, maybe that’s stretching the truth a little bit. Nicole stood in line for me while my brother and I were away for a weekend in Las Vegas. Nevertheless, we made it back to our unopened copy of WoW in time to begin playing towards the end of day 1. It wasn’t my first MMO, nor would it b...

Latest news: Only on Netflix : Disney, Marvel, Pixar - Patience has finally paid off. Our love of Marvel, Disney and Pixar is getting the much-anticipated infusion we’ve been awaiting for two years. I’m not talking about a new movie release. No, it wasn’t some corporate buyout. I’m talking about programming needs. As much as I love Netflix, there is always room for improvement.    In July 2014, I visited Netflix headquarters in San Jose along with a number of other members of the Stream Tea...

Latest news: 10 Outdoor Games and Activities Ideas - While my parents appreciated the solitude, the space for a garden and the privacy that growing up on 10-acres in the country created, it also offered several advantages for my brothers and me. As kids, we had room to run, play and raise our voices without disturbing any neighbors. Dirt bikes were more common than bicycles because few roads near us were paved. Outdoor games like volleyball and badminton were common for family parties while...

Latest news: How Safe Are Your Kids Online? - There are some things from our childhood that stick with us for life. A few weeks ago, I shared some positive actions from 4-H that I have carried with me since my youth and have previously discussed fond childhood memories with my dad. Of course, everyone has at least one negative incident that left an indelible mark. For some, it may have been something traumatic. For me, phone calls stand out in my memory. I was in maybe 3rd or 4th grade at t...

Latest news: Classic, Comfortable Oxford Sneakers - Sometimes I wonder what kinds of shoes I owned as a kid. My mom had cowboy boots that I loved (and wore whenever possible) and a pair of clogs I happily borrowed when I was in about 6th grade. That’s about all I remember though. Around the acreage, I was almost always barefoot. Why not, right? My feet were used to being free. I could run or walk across our country driveway or the gravel drive that separated our home from our cousins next d...
