Finally coming up for air after being a little under the weather.  In case you didn't see last week, my team did another launch of Cloud Console app for iOS and Android.  Really proud!

http://googlecloudplatform.blogspot.com/2015/09/free-yourself-from-your-desk-with-the-Google-Cloud-Console-app.html

One of the really cool things is that we now have SSH for both iOS and Android.  With the fantastic pixel density of modern mobile devices it's actually possible to be productive in a command-line environment on a small screen.  I like to point out that my phone is juuust about the same size as the terminal windows I have running on my laptop.

SSH from mobile isn't totally new of course -- there are some good tools out there already.  But this tool will let you easily jump into your Compute Engine VM instance with one touch.  This is especially convenient if you're on mobile.  So you can restart a process, tail logs, or just play NetHack.  We offer keyboard accelerators for the touch screen, but you can also connect a bt keyboard and go 100wpm if you want.

Download here (and please leave feedback and feature ideas!  we read this every day):

While Apple and Android fuss over boring watch specs, Pebble gets a 3rd-party laser gun.  Yes, a laser gun on your wrist.

Apparently, "pointing at things with a hands-free wearable laser will change your life".

Anyone have insight into Comcast outage?  Current theory is that primary DNS asploded (!), and secondary/tertiary DNS wasn't properly load-balanced.

Anyone know why?

NASA is a fan of Firefly, apparently...

"NASA astronaut Steven Swanson, a fan of the show,[92] took the Region 1 Firefly and SerenityDVDs with him on Space Shuttle Atlantis' STS-117 mission, which lifted off on Friday June 8, 2007. The DVDs will permanently reside on the International Space Station as a form of entertainment for the station's crews.[93]

On February 20, 2009, NASA announced an online poll to name Node 3 of theInternational Space Station; NASA-suggested options included Earthrise, Legacy, Serenity, and Venture.[94] At the March 20, 2009 poll close, 'Serenity', led those four choices with 70% of the vote"
