One of the most important and often overlooked area of the fireplace chimney system is the smoke chamber. It’s the area above your damper where it angles up, funneling hot flue gasses to the bottom of the clay tile liner, where it resumes its exodus from the home in the lined portion of the chimney.

FAQ: How Do I Know I Need A New Chase Cover ?
Have your chimney sweep inspect it when they do their regular chimney sweep and inspection. If you see rust stains, it typically has already been compromised. If you see leakage into the home, then it is possible it already perforated or has some other structural issue. Most cases you want to replace these covers prior to the time they damage the home.

A Lock-Top damper is a necessity for homeowners. Heating and cooling costs are rising daily, and you can’t afford to lose any of your energy through your chimney. The Lock-Top’s seal is extremely tight: there isn’t metal-to-metal contact, but a rubber gasket is added to provide the sealing that you need and expect.

Did you know..?
Sometimes rebuilding is actually cheaper than trying to fix various areas of an existing chimney. Tearing the chimney down to where it is solid and building it back up with new materials often can be the best value.

On single flue chimneys, installation of a pre-cast crown is an option. In some cases, we are matching another existing chimney on a home, or matching the aesthetics of a communities’ chimney construction, that were built with these type crowns.

A Waterbury customer called us out to fix their chimney that had the faces of the brick pop off. This is called spalling, which we see on occasion with porous brick that allows water to penetrate and damage the weaker portions of the brick structure. The flashing on the chimney was also loosened over the years, allowing water to enter as well. Due to the chimney damage, we tore down and rebuilt the chimney masonry from the roof up. We also waterproofed the rest of the chimney with high quality chimsaver waterproofing to slow down the deterioration process that water can cause. http://ow.ly/i/CyAsi

FAQ: How is Cleaning Done??
Our Team here at Safeside use custom flexible chimney rods with wire brushes attached to them. With these tools, we remove and sweep out the interior chimney liner system. By doing this, the soot and creosote is safely removed from the walls of your chimney. For fireplaces , we vacuum the area known as the smokeshelf and also clean out behind the damper. We pay special attention to create no mess for you or your home! Each of our Chimney Sweeps are also warranteed for 30 days. We will re-service at no charge.
