We are well and truly into spring now and yesterday I harvested my first batch of peas! I don’t know how many of you have eaten peas fresh from the garden, but the difference to frozen peas is HUGE. The next question was what to do with our lovely peas.

Rizi Bizi of course.

Things to do in Umag Travel Blog

Umag is a picturesque town on the Adriatic coast of Croatia located in the North West corner of Istria. The abundance of sunshine and warm temperatures nearly all year around makes it the ideal choice for family holidays, as well as couples and groups. The vibe is laid-back and calm, with stunning natural sights to take in.

Umag’s claim to fame is that it’s the gateway to Europe from Croatia, and the fantastic transport links make it easy to get around and explore.

Anyone who is into history will love Umag. You can still see preserved town walls and towers around the town which date back to the Roman empire. Of course, these days people love Umag for its natural beauty, with stunning beaches and a very famous marina, which prestigiously holds the Blue Flag award. For those of you into tennis, the ATP Croatia Open, the most prestigious tennis tournament in the region, takes place in July and has been running for the last 25 years. Umag has something for everyone, so pack your bags, but don’t forget those travel necessities, and take a holiday in Umag.

Things to do in Šibenik Croatia

A coastal city that has endured nearly a millennium of scorching temperatures, sustaining a few wars, being beaten by the waves and whipped by relentless winds, Šibenik remains as vibrant as ever. How did it survive?

For one, its residents are incredibly resilient, for neither war nor climatic event could prevent them from saving and, if necessary, rebuilding their city. Second, the entire city is made of stone, which, of course, helps a lot. Šibenik consists of stone buildings, stone stairways, rock cliffs, cobbled streets and stone arches. It is built on rocks and constructed with rocks. Šibenik is a city of sun, sea and stone, a unique combination of characteristics that make this a city unlike any other in Croatia.

Additionally, this proud city is the only one on the Croatian coast that was built by Croats—Split and Dubrovnik, for example were founded by other cultures.

As the third-largest city in Dalmatia, Šibenik makes for a strongly recommended destination on this spectacular stretch of Adriatic coastline. This city is filled with amazing historic sites, beautiful seaside hang-outs and quaint alleys and squares—just what you may expect from a medieval coastal city in Croatia.

Croatian Easter Bread, Sirnica

Sirnica is a traditional Croatian sweet bread made during the Easter period. At this time of year, you can find it in most bakeries and supermarkets across Dalmatia. My Aunt’s make a wonderful Sirnica every year for us all to enjoy on Easter day, so maybe you could give this recipe a go for your family to enjoy on Easter day as well. Or if you are like Mrs. CtD, you can eat this now, even though Easter is a way off this Easter bread has made its way into the bakeries and she can’t help herself but nibble at it all day.

Croatia Music Festival Essentials

Around this time of year I start daydreaming of getaways and nothing gets me as excited about the warmer weather as FESTIVALS! Sports, music, culture, food, Croatia has an abundance of festivals to keep you coming back year after year. My personal favorites are the Spring and Summer music festivals that start in late April and don’t stop until the first Autumn breeze has arrived. You can find a Croatian music festival to suit every taste from jazz, electronic, classical and indie rock (check out InMusic, the largest open-air festival held in Zagreb).
