Ryan Werder is the program director for the Midwest Region. Before joining the Energy Foundation staff he was deputy director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters (LCV), where he helped guide the organization to four-fold growth during his tenure. He also led the organization’s work in convening and coordinating broad, diverse, and bipartisan coalitions around energy, land use, and water protections. In the 2012 campaign cycle he was loaned to Michigan Energy, Michigan Jobs, where he served as field director. Throughout the campaign he worked with dozens of organizations across the country—including faith, environmental, health, labor, and business groups—to build the state’s largest election day poll greeter and get-out-the-vote program.
Before joining Michigan LCV, Ryan worked in Michigan as field representative for Congressman John Dingell. His roles included interactions with officials and policies on federal, state, and local issues as well as a focus on public/private partnerships.
Ryan earned a degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan, where he founded the monthly campus magazine, The Michigan Independent.
