Devcoin seems a good idea, though I think you run into issues of merit. The coins aren't actually derived from the dev, but from mining and awarded to a dev. I think that is a tough issue around the concept.
The idea of value for an answer computationally derived from the effort in and of itself. Folding@Home, or other grid style compute systems. Results award currency. You have a validation problem, however. The hash validates in existing currencies, but how do you validate a protein fold has been adequately completed in the above scenario. There's a moderation that has to happen, and that means an avenue for exploit or corrupt entities.
It's interesting to think about (at least for me).
