I didn't realize it at first, because I thought I liked their music. But, now I know the truth.

Jenny and I went to Rocky Mountain National Park today. I went hiking to the side of Sprague Lake (which is what the first pic is of), and found all kinds of beautiful scenery. I took a bunch of photos.

Everywhere I've been with snow cover was unexpectedly comfortable.  I think snow acts as an absorber of subjective chill.

It's pretty great. I've been reminded of a lot of other music that I didn't think I'd hear together. "Blue Eyed Hexe" had me thinking of AC/DC music as performed by Queens of the Stone Age or ZZ Top.

I went hiking up Rattlesnake Gulch Trail at Eldorado Canyon State Park today. Took some pictures along the way.

This trail runs up the side of the mountain, passing the remains of a hotel that burned down in 1912, four years after its construction, when its boiler exploded. All that remains are the scorched and rusted boiler, the fountain from the grand plaza (now a cement plant pot), some cinderblock crumbles, and a fireplace with a kettle deformed from the heat of the blaze.

It then runs up to a wide vista of the continental divide (the panorama), and then off to a view of an active railway. These pictures do a terrible job of capturing the scale and magnitude of it all.

The Quotations Page: Quote from Robert Heinlein
www.quotationspage.com

"Progress isn't made by early risers. It's made by lazy men trying to find easier ways to do something."

The rooms and amenities are fine, but the problems started before I ever checked in. Orbitz (my company was paying for my stay) glitched out and didn't pay for the room. So I fronted $300 for the first night. The problem of payment wasn't resolved the next day, so a second time, I authorized a $300 charge. The next morning I woke up to find that second charge was actually a $450 charge, and there was also a third charge for $750 that I DID NOT AUTHORIZE. Well, my company got payment squared away that day, and when I returned to the hotel that afternoon, I approached the front desk about releasing the charges they'd made, and I questioned the $750 fraudulent charge. I was told that not only would it take a few days for the fund release to clear my bank (which I understand, ordinarily), but they also would not even be able to start that process until after my stay was complete, EVEN THOUGH THE ROOM WAS FULLY PAID FOR AT THIS POINT. I was told there was no way to get that money back any faster, which is also false. I've had a situation like this before, and with the exchange of the proper approval codes for the release of funds, my bank is completely capable of and willing to releast my funds. I just have to call them and get bank personnel and hotel personnel to communicate this information. However, the manager, Rashid, was extremely rude. He was clearly resistant from the first moment of contact, telling me over and over again that nothing could be done abou tthe problem until my stay was complete. So I called my bank, and they confirmed what I already knew. Rashid refused to speak to the bank rep on my cell phone. He wanted the bank to call the hotel. This makes perfect sense, as Rashid is unable to be certain the person on my phone is not some cohort of mine trying to get some free money, but my bank rep was unable to make an outbound call from her call center. This is also understandable. Initially, though, Rashid did not even want to make that call. It took some persistence to get that far. However, it was after hours, and he was unable to get through. So I called my bank back right away and the bank rep was willing to speak to Rashid over my phone. Rashid was still resistant to this idea, but finally caved. He told the bank rep that he needed her to confirm the original authorization codes for the fraudulent charges. The bank immediately produced those, and Rashid immediately gave her the release codes and my money was back. With such a simple and available solution in the face of such an awful situation, why was this not the first solution proposed? Why have me wait, out nearly $1400 in one of the most expensive cities in the country, completely unnecessarily? Why the constant, persistent resistance? This is customer service at its worst. The hotel is nice, and I know this is an uncommon situation, but hotel staff just doesn't seem to care much. It's been difficult to get nearly anybody here to even look me in the eye when I'm talking to them, and their approach to this situation was one of exacerbation, not resolution.

The burgers are dry and flavorless and closer to a salad than a burger. I've tried their chicken meals, too, and they're not great either. The custard is often warmer than the air outside, and its usually kinda runny.

I went in for a to go order, and the lady wouldn't even let me finish my order. She kept talking over me, charged my card before is finished telling her what I wanted, and ended up doing another transaction, and I still hadn't finished. Couldn't get a word in edgewise with this lady, I didn't get the food I wanted, got *extra* food that I didn't want, and left frustrated with no intention of coming back.
