Jacksonville takes the top spot in this short article by +The Huffington Post. There are a lot of cool things happening in and around Jacksonville the past couple years.

Great TED Talk
In James Howard Kunstler's view, public spaces should be inspired centers of civic life and the physical manifestation of the common good. Instead, he argues, what we have in America is a nation of places not worth caring about.

Name and shame. I was commuting home on I-95 North in the St. Johns area just South of Jacksonville by Race Track Rd after work on Thursday 5-14-15. This asshole trucker with a vehicle trailer cuts me off by merging into the middle lane I was driving in. No blinker, no regard for what he was doing, nothing - I had to slam on the brakes and swerve off to my left to avoid a collision. Keep in mind what you’re seeing is a dash cam with a wide angle lens. When in real life the distances you’re seeing are much closer than the camera is portraying.

Great read… “I have become part of a family made up of people from all walks of life. We are joined by our desire to experience the space between sky and ground, using the very force that pulls us down to help us fly. My hope is that our resilience, and the triumphs of our explorations, will inspire all who dream of freedom in any form to take the first step.”

Made my 100th skydive 2 weeks ago at the Skydive Palatka Halloween Boogie. We had planned a 5 way with a round, spider, and accordion. Exit was wonky with Jim flipping and going low, then I funneled over Phillip, and then everyone came and docked on me. By the time we got the round and moved to the spider it was break off. I tracked off while everyone stayed an extra second to get the 2nd point. Was still a fun jump regardless the outcome.

I hope when I am 82 I’m in the same mindset as she is both physically and mentally. Amazing little story from the oldest female skydiver, Dylis, who is 82 years old.

“You’re a bird for 50 seconds… it is unbelievably wonderful. I won’t stop till I know it’s not safe. But for now I’m safe, I can do it, and I will do it for as long as I can.”

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Just go and see for yourself. Get there before or around 8am to avoid the line. Once it hits 8am the line starts big. The line moves somewhat fast so don't fret about getting stuck outside with all the hip moms and tourists. Be social, enjoy the experience, and make friends while in line. I had the bonuts and southern benny. Both are excellent choices, but I'm 100% sure that anything you get on this menu you won't be disappointed by. You HAVE to get the bonuts though. Have to try them.

SoFi has been a great loan servicer so far. Refinanced a couple of my college loans around a year ago and since then things have gone well with SoFi. They send out neat little care packages to their customers that I appreciate. They are certainly setting a standard with how loan providers should operate. They actually have some concern for the customers that they service. Approval and transfer process took me 1 week. I would recommend them for any of your loan needs. Was recently invited to one of their community gatherings in Jacksonville that I'd gladly do again without hesitation. It was a free dinner covered by SoFi where local customers could get together and hang out and eat and meet a SoFi rep and ask questions if we wanted to. Or just meet new people and enjoy a night out at a nice restaurant. They hosted it at Taverna which was an excellent spot to have this at. They gave us all some small swag on our way out. One of which was their t-shirts which I love. I don't mind that it has the SoFi logo on it. The shirts are nice and so soft. I've got 2 or 3 of them and enjoy wearing them around. Only issue I've had is that you can't take out a personal loan with SoFi if it will pay for any post-secondary education. I was going to use one to refinance a loan in my dad's name, but ultimately I can't because their personal loans don't allow it.

I'm not overly religious by any means. I don't even go that often, but what I enjoy about coming here is Joby's sermons. I enjoy the way he talks, presents himself, his discussions, conversations, and his jokes. Believe it or not discussing the bible and morals is fun with him. Something I never thought I'd say. I've even gone back to listen to some of his sermons on their Vimeo account. I specifically enjoy the Song of Solomon series. I've learned a lot in the short time I've gone here. Good community, clean environment, and big following. They've grown to over 5,000 followers since 2008 and have multiple services throughout Sunday and the week. I do think the overall experience could be improved a little. I think they could cut out 1 or 2 songs from the beginning and run at least 15 minutes shorter on the sermon length. Other than that though it's pretty fun. Take it from someone that's not overly religious... I enjoy coming here.

Not bad, but not amazing. Pretty average breakfast spot. Not something to really drive out of your way for, but still worth a visit to check out. The service was good and our waitress was super sweet. Food came out in decent time. Not much else to say.

If you're in Nashville you have to try the local staple hot chicken. I went with the local recommendations and stayed away from the real hot stuff despite my love for spicy food. I went with the small white medium with a side of beans and mac and cheese. I was only in Nashville for 4 days, but I wish I could take buckets of this stuff back home with me. It was really good. Will certainly be one of the first spots I go back to when in the area again. Must try. Great food. Gets packed but the lines move pretty quick.

Ordered a 14" buffalo chicken and added onions with banana peppers, and added a side of 6 garlic knots online to be picked up in person and carried out. Cost me $26.76 with taxes. Yikes, that's a lot for a medium pizza with 3 toppings. I sure hope this pizza lives up to all these hyped up reviews cause this kid is hungry and loves pizza. Disappointment #1 - Signing my receipt and standing at the cashier waiting for someone to get my pizza. The lady says (yelling into the kitchen), "Oh ya... can someone get Ryan's pizza." Ok, ya can someone help me out and get my pizza that'd be wonderful. No worries pizza smelled great. Headed home to stuff my face. Disappointment #2 - Started to eat the pizza and realized they forgot to put my banana peppers and onions on it. So I was charged an extra $3.50 for two toppings I didn't receive. Not a big deal, but damn for 2 toppings it costs me almost $4 ... I'm gonna get a refund on that. Oh joy. Called them up and explained. The cashier lady panicked said she could give me a store refund and told me to remind them next time I came in. Hah not falling for that. If you can't even read my receipt to remember to put on toppings what makes you think you'll remember to give me store credit next time I'm in there without documentation? That's funny; literally. So I was able to talk her into refunding me credit on my card for it. So I thought... Checking my credit card as I type this and I see no credit for that. Wonderful! Whatever, let's eat minus my special toppings. Disappointment #3 - The pizza is bad. The crust is overcooked and it doesn't taste fresh. The chicken is hard. It feels like this entire thing was frozen and tossed in an oven with pre-grated bagged cheese thrown on top. I can't begin to describe to you how hard the chicken and crust has gotten since I started eating it. It's like a chemical reaction that when the box was opened and the air hit it the pizza formed into volcanic rock. I couldn't get past 1 and 3/4 pieces. Who is going to eat this? I wonder if I can pass this out to homeless people in downtown. Even though I feel like that might be cruel. I think someone might actually chip a tooth eating this. Disappointment #4 - You thought how could it get any worse? Well, the garlic knots are winning the competition for the worst I've had to date in my life. They are rock hard and swimming in their own pool of grease. See picture. The marinara sauce has no substance to it. I thought it was salsa you get from La nop minus the peppers. Not sure what to do here. I have an entire 14" pizza sitting next to me that I can't eat or even begin to think about what it'll taste like warmed up as leftovers. Leftover pizza is like one of the best things about bringing a pizza home. Le sigh... sadly not for this one tonight. I'm baffled as to how there are so many 5 star reviews here. What am I missing? I don't write many 1 star reviews. Unfortunately, I don't plan on being back, but everyone is welcome to enjoy this place as they see fit. I'll sit this place out. There are a lot better options in Jax and much cheaper at that. If this is truly what New York pizza tastes like (according to other reviewers) I'll stay away from that when in NY.
