Wrote a tutorial on updating system files in #Android without rooting the device:

After about two days I finally got Gentoo installed...Most of that time was spent waiting for applications to compile on the VM (probably needed to allocate more resources to it). Installing Gentoo requires a lot of patience (because compiling packages takes a while and you have to specify what compiler flags you want to use when building the system and sometimes the package manager will want to update config files before it will let you proceed or will run into blockers that you have to rectify before you can proceed) and a lot of tinkering to get operational, so it was good to finally get it going, but if you install a Gentoo system, you don't want to be re-installing it in a hurry...In short I'm glad I got it up and running, but personally I won't be using Gentoo for any linux installs in the near future. #Gentoo   #Linux

Installed Arch Linux for the first time ever. Took a while to get operational, but so rewarding once I did. If you think you have a fairly good grasp of Linux, and have never used Arch, try installing Arch for the first time, it'll make you feel like a newbie again. But at least you'll understand a lot more about Linux once you do it. #ArchLinux #Linux

Android specific info regarding the security vulnerability that was discovered

Post has shared content
It's a local vulnerability that's been blown out of proportion by the media (surprise)
First, it's not really that bad. Second, Linux admins should sill patch their servers anyway.

Some interesting facts about SSD's

Setup a fedora linux mythtv install with Kodi as the frontend last night as a project on an old broken laptop, have also configured kore remote control on my phone and setup Kodi to connect to the backend on my phone also. Not been this interested in TV in years! Spent a long time researching to get it working, the main issues were permissions to the recording directory, device access issues, and firewall config to enable access to the backend and Kodi for the remote. Most of the info was obtained via the mythtv wiki and Kodi, one gotcha with fedora was you have to download the pvr package for kodi which I located on rpmfind.net. The laptop was an old Toshiba c650 with Intel integrated graphics and an atheros wireless card. I used openbox and lxqt for the GUI on fedora.

Fedora 23 cleared to be released, however KDE is having problems keeping up...hopefully they sort this soon as one of the devs just left the project. KDE has always been my favorite desktop environment and if they can't keep up it may be time to switch to cinnamon or xfce
