After about two days I finally got Gentoo installed...Most of that time was spent waiting for applications to compile on the VM (probably needed to allocate more resources to it). Installing Gentoo requires a lot of patience (because compiling packages takes a while and you have to specify what compiler flags you want to use when building the system and sometimes the package manager will want to update config files before it will let you proceed or will run into blockers that you have to rectify before you can proceed) and a lot of tinkering to get operational, so it was good to finally get it going, but if you install a Gentoo system, you don't want to be re-installing it in a hurry...In short I'm glad I got it up and running, but personally I won't be using Gentoo for any linux installs in the near future. #Gentoo   #Linux

Setup a fedora linux mythtv install with Kodi as the frontend last night as a project on an old broken laptop, have also configured kore remote control on my phone and setup Kodi to connect to the backend on my phone also. Not been this interested in TV in years! Spent a long time researching to get it working, the main issues were permissions to the recording directory, device access issues, and firewall config to enable access to the backend and Kodi for the remote. Most of the info was obtained via the mythtv wiki and Kodi, one gotcha with fedora was you have to download the pvr package for kodi which I located on rpmfind.net. The laptop was an old Toshiba c650 with Intel integrated graphics and an atheros wireless card. I used openbox and lxqt for the GUI on fedora.

Fedora 23 cleared to be released, however KDE is having problems keeping up...hopefully they sort this soon as one of the devs just left the project. KDE has always been my favorite desktop environment and if they can't keep up it may be time to switch to cinnamon or xfce

The guy that develops #GPG4win can't afford to keep it going. Kinda a big deal to anyone who has used his software. If you have used the software before, now might be a good time to show your support: https://www.gnupg.org/donate/index.html

Please share. The GNUPG relies on one guy, who is going broke http://www.propublica.org/article/the-worlds-email-encryption-software-relies-on-one-guy-who-is-going-broke

Please donate to https://gnupg.org/donate/index.html

GNUPG is used by the package managers of  Ubuntu, RHEL, Debian and more.

Werner Koch's code powers the email encryption programs around the world. If only somebody would pay him for the work.

this sounds (no pun intended) preposterous...
It sounds too preposterous for even James Bond: by placing a mobile phone next to a PC, researchers can “listen” to the faintest sound a CPU makes as it churns away on RSA-encoded content and extract the keys themselves. Preposterous, except for the fact that Adi Shamir, one of the co-developers of the RSA encryption algorithm, co-wrote the paper that describes how to do it. Daniel Genkin and Eran Tromer were the other two authors. This is ...

Installed Arch Linux for the first time ever. Took a while to get operational, but so rewarding once I did. If you think you have a fairly good grasp of Linux, and have never used Arch, try installing Arch for the first time, it'll make you feel like a newbie again. But at least you'll understand a lot more about Linux once you do it. #ArchLinux #Linux

So after I got this operational I decided to try tackling Gentoo....that's a whole different beast and the handbook isn't anywhere near as easy to follow as the Arch wiki...However I did get it operational, but I didn't get the Gui installed completely because every desktop environment that i could find seems to depend on systemd now....and I followed the handbook and installed openrc...so that was several hours down the drain...but I did get Xorg-server operational so I managed to get a terminal inside the x windows window manager...that's not as nice to look at as a full graphical desktop though.  I'll get that done at a later date and post it once It's done.

It's a local vulnerability that's been blown out of proportion by the media (surprise)

First, it's not really that bad. Second, Linux admins should sill patch their servers anyway.
This flaw isn't nearly as bad as first reported, but Linux administrators still need to fix it.
