"The truth is, our need for bravery never really ends, we just get really good at ignoring it and settling for a life of less. Life is hard and to really enjoy it, to reach for our dreams and not settle for a cheap imitation, we need, no, we must choose bravery. That is the truth I want my kids to know, and even more, that is the truth I want my kids to see. They may not have a mama that achieves her every dream, but they will have a mama who was brave enough to try"."

Day 2 in the Dominican Republic. I realized today that it would be impossible to share every touching moment, every precious child, every tear shed. I can't share every story, but I can share this one--the story of Arita and her family, of her two beautiful children and her mother and grandmother, and how, with the help of Compassion, these four generations are learning to finally break the cycle of poverty once and for all.
I think sometimes we neglect to act because we see that there is so much need that whatever little we have to give could never be enough. But I have seen firsthand what just a few dollars can do here, and I promise that for families like this one, it is enough!
I can't tell every story, but I can tell this one: http://bit.ly/1zMCwwh

Day 3 in the Dominican Republic. I knew this trip wouldn't be easy, but I don't think I was fully prepared for how hard it would be Yesterday I woke up thinking I just couldn't face another day. Not because I'm indifferent or don't want to help, but because I just didn't know if my heart could take much more. I felt like I had nothing left to give. But the whisper said "follow me."
Will you consider making a difference in the life of one of these kids this week? They need you so much! For $38 a month you can literally change the future of an entire family. It is powerful stuff.

This week I am blogging from the Dominican Republic, where I am traveling with Compassion International. Yesterday we visited a center in the ghetto of Santo Domingo and I found the last thing I expected to find in the midst of poverty and despair.
You can read all about it here: http://bit.ly/1A17ENt
I'm not quite sure what I was expecting today, but I know it wasn't what I found. Don't miss your chance to make a difference in the life of a child. You are needed more than you know!
