Today: [Malachi 4] The Concluding Chapter of the Old Testament. In Malachi 4 the final prophet of the Old Testament era concludes his message, after which God falls silent for over 400 years, known as the inter-testamental period. In summing up his message, Malachi speaks of the eternality of hell for the wicked, and reward for those who seek out a life of faithfulness to God. Both of these teachings are under major assault in contemporary Christianity, in which hell is often believed not to exist, and that standards of righteousness and holiness are exchanged for a nebulous, subjective religious lifestyle that makes no certain demand upon men and women other than a general sincerity and just doing your best as you see fit and all will go to heaven.

Today: [Malachi 3] Refiner’s Fire and Fuller’s Soap: In Malachi 3 we have a Messianic promise of God’s messenger coming to the people of God, not just as a healing balm, but as a refiner’s fire. There is at this time a deep lack of discernment in the people Malachi writes to in our chapter. They feel they are as close to God as they possibly can be, but in reality, are living in a state of deep deficit in their relationship to the Father. Could this be you? Are you really as close to God as you think you are? Mal. 3 gives us a opportunity for clear eyed self-examination.

Today: [Malachi 2] Taking Leadership to Task: In chapter 2 of Malachi the prophet speaks by the spirit of God against the excesses and failures of the priesthood that were supposed to teach the people and set the example of godliness. Does this message have any relevance in our day? According to a 2012 Gallup poll, ministers and pastors stand among the least trusted professions in America. Is there any comparator between the corrupt priesthood of Malachi’s day and church leadership today? Because of unchecked problems Malachi’s day, the declaration of God is that their prayers would go unanswered. A sobering message to seek to apply to our own church culture, but needful nonetheless.

Today: [Malachi 1] When God Quit the Church: In the book of Malachi the scene opens upon a time of downturn and difficulty for the people of God. Their history is marching them into the 400 silent years between the Old and New Testaments. The restoration temple is a polluted place, worship of God is very marginal, and now a prophet, the final Old Testament prophet speaks up with a last gasp message of clarity to a people whose ears were deafened by their own miserable existence, unwilling to be challenged in any way. Is there any relevance in the message of Malachi to the day we live in?

Today: [Zecheriah 14] Will Jesus Literally Return to the Mount of Olives? In the ending chapter of Zecheriah we see parallels with the book of Revelation wherein the final adjudication of the rule of man is brought to its conclusion in a climactic battle at the end time city of Jerusalem. Is this just allegory? Have these things already come to pass? Such are the questions posed and answered in our chapter today.

Today: [Zecheriah 13] The Coming of Christ, the End of the Prophets. Chapter 13 of Zecheriah speaks of a time when the Jewish people on the earth will finally accept Jesus, when He stands before their nation in physical form. At this time, that Jesus comes to set up His kingdom, with His rule at Jerusalem, the office of the prophet will be done away with, as all is fulfilled by the hand of Jesus Himself, physically returned to earth.

Thy Will Be Done:

Your opinions are impermeable to the grace that answers prayer. We must have the mind of God whether it suits our thinking or not. Then your prayer will be answered because it becomes as apostle Warren Hunter says “God working with God”.

Prayers are powerful, not because you pray them but because God hears them. Let your mouth pray!

Today: [Zecheriah 12] Jerusalem will be a Cup of Trembling: In this chapter, the writer speaks of Jerusalem at a future time becoming a cup of trembling causing her enemies among the nation to reel like drunkards. The timing of these events are fixed at a time when the Messiah will come visibly and physically to show the people of Israel the wounds in his hands and feet, provoking great mourning among the Jews for the realization that they have rejected their Messiah for so many centuries.
