A large varied menu here that seems to be a bit healthier than normal and I am told on the menu that everything is organic and local. While I don't taste "organic" or "local" everything does seem to come out great. If you are one who isn't ashamed to order a salad, they are very good here with my favorite being the chicken curry. The dressing is amazing. I usually walk in here with all the tables full but someone always seems to be leaving just when you need to sit down. It is also a bit annoying that they seem to be pandering to all the people that suddenly have celiacs disease with gluten-free everything. But definitely a good local option for those who are looking to eat something they good and they know is good for them at the same time.

"Where do you wanna meet for lunch?" Those words almost immidiately are followed by panic. Somewhere between here and there - equa-distant Some place that shows off Houston's charm and unqueness. Somewhere that can satisfy those with a foodie palate but not too out there. And someplace I can find something not entirely off my meal plan (gluten free, dairy free, sugar free -- it's not miserable - I PROMISE!) without feeling like I'm being a pain or missing out. Oh - AND PARKING! I met an out-of-town friend here for lunch. It was quick. Not too quiet. Not too loud. We found seating easily - it was post-lunch rush. I got the salmon salad. He and his partner got a pizza and some cake. We chatted well past our plates were empty. Refilled entirely too much yummy Katz's tea. And I sent them on their way to explore 19th Street and the Heights. I loved their comment: this doesn't feel like we're in Houston. (in a positive way) TIP: Overflow parking on the church next door on 11th.

Had the spicy chicken toco's which was very good! Others had the veggi burger, all natural beef burger, and turkey meat balls with nothing but good things to say. We all left feeling satisfied and not oversuffed.

Ruggles Green is our newest BYOB option. My husband had some preconceived notions about it and its taken some persuading to get him to try it, BYOB tipped the scale. The staff is very nice about opening the bottle for you and delivering it to your table with a bucket if needed. The cork fee I believe is $8? There is a parking lot shared with a church next door and it can fill up quickly at peak times. So beware. Its also rather loud inside. Its usually packed with table crammed inside so that makes sense. If you want to have a conversation eat on the covered side porch. The Food: I have not had a bad dish here. There salads are plentiful with green goodness and creative ingredients. I recommend the Chicken Curry salad and the Fried Goat Cheese and Arugula salad. I've had the occasional chicken dish w/the smoked chicken and I love the spice. In fact I've subbed out regular grilled chicken for it on several dishes. One of my favorites is a daily special of ravioli, I've only seen it twice and the second time it was sold out. :( So it is THAT good. I also LOVE their dessert. The Chocolate Creme Brulee Cheesecake is amazing! It is very rich so it works best after a salad. If you order it you should take advantage of the BYOB and have a nice port with it. Perfection. The Pink Velvet Cake is also a good choice it has the same silky feel of red velvet without the red dye taste. Once caveat I have to mention is several times my dishes have been great but my husbands have not been. In particular he tried a meatball dish, It was turkey meatballs and they were terrible (dry and bland). Others at our table got the same thing and did not care for it as well. Most recently he got a salad special and was disappointed as well. It was rather bland and oddly mixed. That is what cost this review a star. All in all a wonderful non-Italian byob option.

Had the beef burger. It was the healthiest one I've ever had! Wheat bun, lots of veggies, very tasty. Bread pudding was yummy as well.

NOT GLUTEN FREE. OMG, the gluten free thing that they market so well is NOT so gluten free. I have been going here since it opened in the heights and been going to Ruggles Green for years as I enjoy their gluten free menu. I love the food and the atmosphere. I've been enjoying the gluten free pizza thinking that Ruggles Green will pay special attention to my gluten free requirements. However, tonight I watched them make my pizza and I was shocked. Although the ingredients don't have gluten, they make zero attempt to separate any of the preparation areas or tools. I had to give away my pizza and will never visit this establishment again.

I have celiacs and I'm mostly a health conscious eater. Ruggles clearly labels the gluten free and vegan dishes on their menu. Outdoor seating is lovely although it can be slightly noisy at times. You pretty much can't go wrong here. It's not a fancy place, but the food is simple and delish!

I've been a huge fan of Ruggles Green City Centre. You really can't beat that location as a nice springtime/fall spot for people watching. Sooo...I was pretty excited when I heard they were opening a Heights location by my house. While it doesn't have the same atmosphere of City Centre, you can rely on the food to be the same great quality. The staff is spectacular. They get the food out to you within minutes of ordering and pick up your finished plates right away. The space is much smaller and more intimate. The patio area is small, but I guess it keeps with the local Heights vibe. My favorites are the hi-protein hempanadas, margherita pizza, and honey fried goat cheese and arugula salad.
