There's still no electricity or running water at my parents' house in Danbury, Conn. It has been 16 hours so far. On the plus side, the combination of snow and Fall foliage is gorgeous. Here's the view from our windows:

Women still only hold 11.7% of executive positions and make up 17.2% of board directors at New York's largest companies. My graphic on the trend:

Smoking rates dropped to 14% in New York City, down from 21.5% in 2002. Some maps I made showing the changes, by neighborhood:

The Straphangers Campaign ranked the best and worst subway lines. The J/Z surprised New Yorkers by grabbing the top spot, while the 2 and C continued to hang on to the bottom.

I have an irrational love of the B-train, which is funny because it's almost at the bottom of the list. Meanwhile, I groan when I see the Q, even though it's No. 2.

“No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new."

Great Knowledge about Death. Death is not big thing important what he do in present if we do great things in present like helping people who are helpless and try to make others lives good and happy than Definitely you feel Great... Not Feel worry about Life after here because it is reflection of our past life..... Keep Doing Good Thing

I've had this Bob Dylan song stuck in my head for days.

Other appropriate hurricane music:
"Rock You Like a Hurricane" (Scorpions)
"Why does it always rain on me?" (Travis)
"Stormy Weather" (Sinatra)

What's on your hurricane mix?

Coming soon: a movie version of "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close," a haunting, beautiful book by Jonathan Safran Foer. It's probably the best book I read last year, one of the few I still think about long after turning the last page.

The movie will star Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, John Goodman and Viola Davis. It follows the trend of books I've recently enjoyed becoming big-budget Hollywood productions. Others include "The Hunger Games," "One Day," "The Help" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." It makes me a little sad. But I'll probably still go see them.
