On May 29 this year, the soccer teams of Afghanistan and Maldives played a game in which an Afghan player scored on penalty kick that will remind Dutch soccer fans of the way Abe Lenstra supposedly scored a penalty kick in the 1950s while tying his shoes an...

Hilarious story. I didn't pay attention to the name of the author. Finding out that it is from the pen of David Sedaris explains it all.

After 150,000 miles (and going) my wife got stuck with our Subaru in State College. Graham's came to the rescue, towed the car to the garage, figured out that they could not repair the car and brought it to Stocker's Subaru for repairs. We have AAA and I am sure Graham's got paid (as they should) but what stood out for us was their professional attitude, their ability to talk to us, and how they did what they said they were going to do.

We stayed here for a few days in late June, 2009. We found out about this place from a flyer in a coffee shop in Pokka, where we arrived from Kittila on our way to Inari. The drive was beautiful, no car to be seen and the asphalt road (after Pokka) in great shape. Ran into a few reindeer, but for the rest, small birch and pine forests, and lakes of course, as far as the eye could see. Korpikartano consists of a manor house with several comfortable wooden rooms, and appartments in what used to be an old school building, The owners have recently added an fantastic enclosed barbecue pit in the shape of a teepee, with deer hides on wooden benches and a pointed glass roof for a look at the sky. They are in the process of completing another BBQ house for larger groups. My wife swam in the lake, we went canoeing on the river in the national park nearby, and had healthy dinners in the restaurant in the manor and in restaurant Akhuntupa nearby. Met some interesting fellow travelers, most of whom were on their way to the North Cape. We appreciated the advice from Tara Arrela, the hostess and also talked to the owner of this wonderful resort.
