Male Black-Chinned Hummingbird  (Archilochus alexandri) close up and in flight. These guys are very feisty at this time of year, battling all other hummers within 'their' territories. They are relatively small hummers, but make up for it with bravado. The purple gorget is only found on the males, and is only visible from the front. #Canon    #hummingbirdphotography   #hummingbird      #wildlife   #nature   #highspeedphotography

+John Mulhouse  At 2 meters tall, he could be whatever he wished to be...I would not argue.

A brown recluse spider (Loxosceles reclusa) in close up. Often called a violin or fiddleback spider as a result of the pattern on the top of the carapace, as seen clearly in this image. Taxonomic of this family (Sicariidae) is the fact that they (only!) have six eyes, rather than the more common eight, found in most spider families. Again, clearly visible in this image. +Jane Ellen  #spidersunday     #macro4all     #macro     #macrophotography     #spider    #spiderphotography     #brownrecluse   #arachnid

Salticidae - Jumping spider. Probably Evarcha genus. These things are so small and fast that my eyesight and reaction time are limiting my opportunities. I think I will leave photographing these to the young guys like +Thomas Shahan  from now on. I did my part 25 years ago with film...! This guy (girl, actually) is about 2.5mm from front to back.  #macromonday   Single frame, Canon 65mm MPE.

Ugly little bugger. Though not so ugly as some. I love these sorts of photos - incredible to see another world so close up...

An exciting Kickstarter project for true HD high speed video under $5K. I am really looking forward to this - my only other options seem to have been north of $100K, so this is fantastic!

Yes I hope it works out. Maybe we can get together and film the first real high speed 3D video :-).

Cheers.

I am looking for a specimen like this to use as a scanning electron sample.  Let me know if you have any spares - in 5% alcohol for shipping.

One of my hummer images is on the home page slide show of www.photographytalk.com - apparently the biggest photography subscription site on the planet. Cool! To see more of my work, visit my folio site at www.roypix.com  - which is still under development....Sigh....
