BLOCKCHAIN-ENABLED COLLABORATIVE PERSONALIZED LEARNING

Hopping over here from a conversation on Twitter, since it isn't possible to go into any depth in 140 characters minus the names of all the people you're in conversation with...

This article looks at the potential impact of blockchain on schools. While the title mentions personalized learning, in fact it mainly discusses certification, where the potential of blockchain is evident and already being applied.

It also discusses 'badging' as proof of learning at a far more modular level, which suggests a kind of "micro-certification" of learning elements in a broader learning journey.

Going beyond that, here is my take on how blockchain could support collaborative learning:

Effective personalized learning requires gathering all available data on the learning process, including any data on the learning process, and any data points that indicate learning comprehension (including elements such as time taken to respond to questions, information access, mouse paths, and ideally richer data such as facial expression analysis).

This only becomes truly useful if it is correlated with the success of other learners, in being able to identify optimal learning paths for learning styles. The more that rich individual learning information correlated to personal profiles can be shared, the better personalized learning can become.

While blockchain is not necessary for this, it can be designed to create a very rich pool of individual learning data in a way that enables the identification of optimal personalized learning paths for any individual, with best possible anonymization of individual data.

These are my initial thoughts. I'm very interested in any other perspectives on how blockchain could enable personalized/ collaborative/ better learning, any thoughts?

"everyone involved in APIs has an implicit understanding of the importance of transcending boundaries. These are not people who are perpetuating existing systems, they are enabling new structures for value creation and organizations."
