Morning stroll around the Washington Monument, World War 2 Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, FDR Memorial, and Jefferson Memorial.

Ended with the U.S. Holocaust Museum which if having a great exhibit called Some Were Neighbors: Collaboration & Complicity in the Holocaust.

Ate way too much food at Rasika for lunch and Izakaya Seki for dinner. Highly recommend both.

"We can get some intuition for the costs of resource misallocation by looking at water in California. As you may have noticed at the grocery store, almonds are in demand right now whether raw or in almond milk. So how much water does almond production alone use? More water is used in almond production than is used by all the residents and businesses of San Francisco and Los Angeles combined."
One of the most remarkable discoveries of economics is that under the right conditions competitive markets allocate production across firms in just that way that minimizes the total costs of production. (You can find a discussion of this remarkable property […]

"California has plenty of water…just not enough to satisfy every possible use of water that people can imagine when the price is close to zero. As David Zetland points out in an excellent interview with Russ Roberts, people in San Diego county use around 150 gallons of water a day. Meanwhile in Sydney Australia, with a roughly comparable climate and standard of living, people use about half that amount. Trust me, no one in Sydney is going thirsty."

The most depressing part of this post: "We're making our way through the report and will add to the list."
Some of the key evidence Justice Department officials cited in their report on Ferguson.

"Here’s Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson writing to the city manager: “Municipal Court gross revenue for calendar year 2012 passed the $2,000,000 mark for the first time in history, reaching $2,066,050 (not including red light photo enforcement.)” The city manager was thrilled. “Awesome!” he wrote. “Thanks!”"
What the Ferguson government is doing isn't just racist, scholars say, it's medieval.

"What’s abundantly clear is that iOS 8 helps in using Chrome as your main browser if you want to, with fewer reservations and constraints. Google is taking advantage of iOS 8 technologies in interesting ways, and I’m a fan of the new gestures on the iPhone version."
In an update released today, Google has added a widget and new gestures to Chrome for iOS, making it easy to open links from other apps and manage tabs on the iPhone. I’ve been testing this new version of Chrome for the past couple of weeks, and I think Google is bringing some interesting ideas […]

A few long exposures at Lafayette Square on a very chilly night in DC.

As I was photographing, a family walked by and their young kid said "Is that the White House? It's ugly!" James Hoban does not care for your opinion, stupid kid!

The first phone screen I shatter and it's a biggie! I dropped my iPhone 6 Plus flat on its face on Friday, and it cracked into a million pieces.

Luckily it still worked, so I backed up using iTunes (I had iCloud backups but figured this would be faster) and restored to an old 5s.

I was able to get a Genius Bar appointment for Monday morning. $130 and 90 minutes later, had a new screen.

Interesting fact: when you get a new screen, they also replace the Touch ID, front camera, and speaker elements.

And now I'm keeping the case on.

"Where in the Constitution does it say that the people of California have the right to pay .5 cents per gallon of water? "

Where in the Constitution does it say that you have the right to not pay for fresh, drinkable water to be piped hundreds of miles and delivered to your home on demand...and then funneled away before flooding your property or offending your olfactory sense?
