A bit of Hammond Organ work today. This time an old L100 with motor troubles (amongst other things). A new run capacitor should get the generator section up and spinning again as the old one's just about to burst! Then it's just a bit of rewiring to make the mains input side safe and she's ready to (prog?)rock.

The latest dev board from Texas Instruments arrived today and is already connected to and broadcasting its presence on the interweb....... At £12 including delivery it's a LOT of kit for the money. T.I. really are putting some serious work into these boards and their development platform.

There were weak Northern Lights visible from the beach here this evening. No real distinct features but nice to see anyway.... :o)

Good video. The rise in the number of counterfeit parts being sold on ebay in recent years is a bit scary. I use one of the standard lower voltage versions of this board to power a raspberry pi print server and NAS, which it does very well. I wouldn't trust it anywhere even remotely close to its claimed operating maximums though - particularly without a heatsink.

I wonder if your fake boards would survive with a reasonable heatsink fitted to the IC. Even at their claimed efficiency, they're still dissipating a fair bit of power under load.

Max rated voltage must be the inside switch/mosfet brakedown voltage and heatsink would not help. HV version has different switch/mosfet with higher breakdown voltage.

The Prelinger Archive footage looks great in that TV frame. Good choice :-)

I'd be careful of using the word "invented"....... Built, yes, but not invented. There are quite a few similar projects already built and documented online. I reckon yours might win the coolest case competition though.

Certainly people have been putting new devices in old devices for a long time. A contest I wanted to submit this video to has a category called "I invented this", so the phrase was on my mind.

Slight overkill using the pcDuino in this application. Fair enough if it's just a "because you can" project but there are MUCH cheaper options for pushing temperature data to the internet. The pcDuino costs around £35 here whereas a cheap arduino clone and ethernet shield would do the job for under £20. The new Texas Instruments connected launchpad will do all of this and more for £12 and even uses the arduino-like IDE "Energia".
pcDuino can connect to Internet by Ethernet, WiFi, GPRS and 3G. In this project, we will use a TMP36 temperature sensor to sense the office temperature and push to yeelink ...

Back from the dead...... After Google's ridiculous and heavy-handed removal of the previous version from the market place, ArduinoDroid is back and better than ever.
Important: The app takes about 210Mb as it contains IDE, compiler and uploa...

Another great video. Good advice on discharging caps before inserting fingers.....

A good discharging tip I picked up a many years ago was to simply connect the plate of the valve farthest from the power supply straight to chassis/ground. The voltage will drain away safely and slowly through the various power supply b+ resistors, avoiding any scary bangs and sparks. This is normally "V1" in guitar amps or the first preamp valve in your case.

You deserve a medal for your correct pronunciation, by the way.

SoLder on.

Shot from the car as we headed back home from a New Year spent on the Isle of Lismore..... The West Coast of Scotland might be cold and wet but it's never short of spectacular views :O)

A few photos from yesterday evening's sunset. It had almost passed by the time I got to the harbour but I managed to grab a couple of quick shots before it disappeared completely   :O)
