Great read by +Mark Monroe on the NGD claims of a 1.0 PUE and Net Zero.  Defines the metrics very clearly and why NGD's claims are BS! #datacenter
The recent burst of stories about the NGD data center in Wales, UK, has stirred the world of data center efficiency experts by publishing their PUE as 1.0.

I was really surprised to see a few locations in the Midwest amongst the most expensive places to lease #datacenter  space in the country.  Is it due to a lack of competition?  I have thought that the Omaha market might take off.  Will others move there to take advantage of the higher margins?  Something to watch...

I don't think this is a surprise to anyone.  Historically, marketing has been one of the bigger offenders in taking on rogue #cloud  instances, but who can blame them?  By the time IT gets something set up, the opportunity to strike may be passed.
As cloud adoption grows, keeping track of all the cloud applications in use at a business becomes a challenge. Read More

Amazon is hiring CIOs to sell #cloud  to CIOs.  Interesting approach!
"Amazon.com is quietly hiring chief information officers to pitch prospective customers on the benefits of its cloud," Clint Boulton recently reported in The Wall Street Journal.

Great read from +Tim Crawford on the ever-maturing movement from the enterprise #datacenter  toward colocation and #cloud .  Thought leaders like Tim, +Mark Thiele and +Jan Wiersma called this long ago.  Slower folks like me joined in a year later, but it's in full swing now.  It will be interesting to see how far it swings toward the cloud vs. colocation.  Will folks predicting the end of even colocation like Zahl Limbuwala and +Tony Greenberg be correct?

Interesting article on the role reversal of Amazon and Google in their views on renewable energy. Amazon has committed to 100% renewable #energy  while Google has admitted their efforts and investments in renewable energy have not yielded the results they had hoped for.  Their hopes were very lofty and had hoped to actually reverse climate change.  They have come to the realization that they have failed.  It will be interesting to see if their investments in that sector drop.

Good, short read on 3 #energy  efficiency myths...
These misconceptions are more widely believed than Bigfoot sightings, and much more costly. Are these notions leading your company astray?

Greenwashing at its' finest!  Regardless of the source of the power, PUE is the ratio of power coming into the site over the power reaching the IT assets.  If it has lights, a cooling system, or anything else drawing power besides the IT loads, it's not 1.0.  #datacenter   #sustainability

Good checklist of what to look for in a #datacenter  from +Mark Thiele!  Don't underestimate the power aspect.  The power market will undergo radical changes in the near future, including the ability for you to be your own power broker.  Scale matters!
