I'm interested in ideas - hearing about them, advancing my own, and testing them.
Introduction
Born in Manhattan, raised in Canada, I live in New York city.  Married with two kids, spend time in the Hamptons and Spain. My career background started in TV sales development and promotions, and for the last fifteen years, online publishing and digital media (general management role).   I'm interested in a pretty eclectic array of topics, I have opinions, and I like to debate.

This place has been here for at least 30 years...it was (probably still is) a real single's scene back then, but that's mostly over on the north side - it occupies the whole ground floor of the building and fronts on two streets, with the singles scene mainly being on the north side. On the south side, there's a nice patio which is great in warm weather. They have great Mexican food (not quite "haute", but well above neighborhood Mexican joint status) but the real attraction are the very strong margaritas. We go here often for these.

For a non-high end Italian restaurant, the pizza and pasta (pretty much the whole menu) are really very good. I do find the total tab when it comes just a little pricey, at least if a couple of people at the table went with pasta.

I'm not going to say "don't go here" because it's a very nice restaurant, and the food can be excellent - except in my experience, when it's not. Same for the service...I've been many times over the years, and had several quite abysmal experiences with service. Maybe it's because it's so big, not sure. So just be aware, you could go and have a 4 1/2 star experience, or a 2 star experience. Depends on the day.

For what it is, it's great...a neighborhood pub with good grub, cold beer and friendly service (another reviewer says the bartenders can be gruff - in a good way but I sit in the restaurant section and the waitresses are all very nice). When it's busy, it's also VERY noisy.

We go here all the time because it's in our neighborhood. The service can be gruff (it's a cultural thing maybe as most employees have very little English). But that is not a reason not to go for me any more than gruff service is a reason to avoid going for steak at Peter Luger's. This is some of the best Chinese food in the city, although perhaps not Americanized enough for some tastes. It's also Cantonese, not Szechuan. I have to laugh though at reviews that say there are better Chinese options with better food in the neighborhood - you have got to be kidding. The other dead giveaway as to food quality with any ethnic cuisine restaurant is if actual ethnics go to it, and let me tell you - Phoenix Garden is very popular with actual Chinese people.
