GE has come up with a super efficient LED light bulb for street lamps that could last up to 20 years, but what's really interesting is the sensor pack it includes with each bulb along with access to the Predix platform to build applications based on the sensor data. http://tcrn.ch/1J7irYk

Machine learning is suddenly the must-have feature for cloud service providers. AWS may be the latest, but it's something all the usual suspects are offering now. http://bit.ly/1Nyxdhe

It's Friday and that means it's time for my regular weekly feature, The Cloud 5. This week, HP quits the public cloud (big surprise that), smart Barbie (cool or creepy) and keeping Android and Chrome OS separate (What do you think?). http://bit.ly/1yiIk7j
We look at HP quitting the public cloud, a new Barbie doll that is connected to the cloud, and a case for keeping Android and Chrome OS separate.

In the strange world of high finance sometimes companies are forced to sell, even when they really might not want to. Such was the case with Informatica, which was sold this week to private equity investors at the behest of activist investors. And now a profitable company has to live with the outcome. http://tcrn.ch/1FnkrbB
