Among my favorite reader comments on our book, “Managing the Unmanageable: Rules, Tools, and Insights for Managing Software People and Teams”:  “I agree with reviewers that equate this with ‘The Mythical Man-Month’. It is a ‘modern day classic’ that belongs on every Software Manager’s Desk.” http://www.managingtheunmanageable.net/bookreviews.html

This week wrapped up a three-month gig as Interim VP Engineering at a mid-peninsula startup in health care. A long hiring cycle to find their right first fulltime VPE. Engaged me in the interim to coach product team effectiveness, do some hiring, enhance agile skills, build the team, move their mission forward. The new VPE started last week. This week a bit of knowledge transfer. Successfully transitioned.

Tonight (5/28): Augmented Reality futures! "Real Context Awareness: Secure Swarm Sensing, Ad Hoc Biomimicry, and Owning Your Personal Cloud." Emerging Tech SIG in SF, 6:30. Clark Dodsworth, author of Digital Illusion. www.svforum.org/ETsig
The Emerging Technology SIG examines specific new technologies and applications, as well as technology trends and opportunities across markets and industries. We don't mind if a technology has one foot in the lab; we do avoid those that are "established" in any sense of the word.

“Transforming Chaos to Clarity.” Slides from my talk last week at ACM, the professional programmer’s association. Subtopic: “Making Your Software Development Hum.” http://www.slideshare.net/RonLichty/transforming-chaos-to-clarity-acm-615
Does your software development feel chaotic? If you have ever been dissatisfied with your software development flow - if you would like to figure out how to avoid chaos - this is a presentation for you! Ron Lichty has found himself repeatedly called in as the cavalry to help development groups stuck in confusion. A recognized engineering leader, Ron says, “I've found that I excel at coming in cold, identifying the causes of chaos, untangling orga...

We found a casual French restaurant in Sausalito in one of the marinas for our 30th anniversary. Restaurant is Le Garage, which it once was, with roll-up doors (original or restored or copy) from its garage days and a working welding shop among their current neighbors. The waiters wear navy blue mechanics’ shirts with a “Le Garage” patch where a name patch might have been. Beautiful evening in a neat setting. Sail boats all around. Awesome food included a figs-and-dandelions salad, duck confit and splitting a molten-center Fondant au Chocolat.
