Red tape: paintings by Carl Hammoud Nobody seems to like bureaucracy very much, and yet somehow we always seem to end up with more of it. One can see its effects in every aspect of our lives. Indeed, bureaucracy has become the water in which we swim.

Twenty to thirty people, mostly men, show up for secret meetings on Los Angeles’s East Side, near the neighborhood of Little Armenia where most of them live. Clutching coffee and packs of Marlboros, they share war stories and ask for advice. Female drivers whose passengers send them sexually explicit texts, drivers of both genders who have been slapped or threatened—everyone speaks up.

Introduction
Over a decade of demonstrated leadership developing digital (social media, governance, website & mobile) strategy for a wide range of companies, colleges & organizations. I provide insight and analysis to senior leaders and have a history of developing internal teams across silos to create shared ownership of institutional web properties.

My specialties include website redesign implementations, research & development, social media channel strategy, content deployment & migration, training.

I'm a veteran of three startups, the most notable (Omnivore SP '06) a joint partnership with a Chinese firm to develop a U.S. athletic brand.

My background is unusual for a web director -- I cut my teeth developing successful online communities during the 90s, spent four years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force managing a 300-person IT unit and even spent a semester as an admissions counselor in New York City.

All of these experiences shape my views on user experience, content strategy and how we evolve the customer experience in the digital realm. I became well-known in my industry largely from blogging and speaking at conferences such as AMA, Confab, HighEdWeb and at universities like Penn State, University of Michigan & more.
