Located at the mouth of the River Tiber, Ostia was Rome’s seaport, but, due to silting and a drop in sea level, the site now lies 3 kilometers (2 miles) from the sea. From #Rome it takes about 45 minutes by metro and train to get to Ostia. The site is famous for the ancient apartment buildings (insula) that are very well preserved.

Of the original #Temple of Hadrian, only one row of eleven columns is still visible today as part of a 17th century stock exchange building. The temple was built in honor of the #Roman emperor Hadrian, who reigned from 117 to 138 AD.
