"I’ve been asked a lot recently about whether I believe Facebook will create its own search engine, because the rumors that never die have started again. I don’t, not a web-wide one. Among other reasons, I think Facebook won’t because it understands that doing social right, when you’re at the scale Facebook handles, is ensuring that people discover what’s interesting to them rather than having to search for it. Social = discovery, a kissing cousin of search, but not the same. "

Huge fire at the local Citibank today. Remarkable coordination across multiple agencies.

Fantastic sushi and sashimi and other authentic Japanese options. As a New Yorker, this is my favorite London option for dining alone at the sushi bar.

Sit at the bar, sip some bourbon, and (when available) grab some beef burnt ends.

Lovely bar area with extraordinary spirits selection. Good "bar food" options like flatbreads and as a special a great cheeseburger. Fine dining menu has good options, including for the at least slightly adventurous (venison , wild boar, etc) and leans a little precious at times ("beet tartar"). The "farmhouse menu" features items from the restaurant's own nearby farm, with the exception of the beef short ribs, which were very good. Space is gorgeous and modern exposed brick, with communal table, high top, outdoor, and standard dining zones. The"open"kitchen is not designed as a showpiece and is actually disappointing in trends of food theater. Service varied, ranging from friendly and highly engaged professional to a little clueless / reactive to downright indifferent. The other night I was especially disappointed in our thoroughly unprofessional waiter, who never checked up on us and seemed annoyed to be there. I will come again, probably to sit in the bar area or outdoors in the summer.

The strudels are fantastic - try the cherry and cheese. Refill-your-own-coffee is a great feature. Take a box of cookies home with you. Highly recommended.

Excellent execution of simple Italian cuisine. Terrific creamy hearty red sauce on pasta. Wonderful fried artichoke hearts appetizer. Pizzas were fine but not extraordinary. Odd dynamics with the wine list, which is not printed. Definitely adding to my list of neighborhood favorites.
