+Martin Miller I am with you on that comment. About the only wearable you may need to make a phone call is a Bluetooth headset. This whole wearable thing is a bunch of hyped up nonsense no matter if it is an iWatch or even the Android version like Moto 360. Perhaps the smartphone market has reached saturation and they are grasping at straws to drum up what they hope is the latest and greatest hot selling gadget!

At last! I wonder why this did not work long ago?

google voice calling, sms and voicemail—now available in hangouts

earlier today we announced free voice calls from hangouts, making it easy and affordable to keep in touch with loved ones (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2014/09/call-me-maybe-introducing-free-voice.html). but that’s not all :) our update also includes some improvements for our passionate (and patient) google voice users:

1. calling. when you call someone from hangouts, it’ll now come from your google voice number. and when someone calls you, you can answer from hangouts too.

2. sms. you can now send and receive your google voice sms messages from the hangouts app.

3. voicemail. google voice voicemails can now appear in hangouts as part of your ongoing conversations. either read the transcriptions, or play them inline!

these features will be activated a few days after we complete today’s rollout. so grab the new version of hangouts when it’s available (v2.3, http://goo.gl/v7FTL), and install the accompanying dialer to turn on voice calls (http://goo.gl/tRaJpm). ios only supports google voice calling for now, but sms and voicemail support are coming soon.

hangouts remains the future of google voice (http://goo.gl/WVVFN0), so we’re going to keep bringing the most-loved google voice features into the core hangouts experience. (don’t worry: your google voice number won't change.) in the meantime make a free call on us, and enjoy today’s updates!

Lesson taught: Linux promotes learning about technology and causes it's users to "quietly weep" much less frequently! :-D

This reviewer is VERY impressed with ChromeOS...

The future of computing has a name: Chromebook

Jack Wallen tackles the enigma of enigmas, otherwise known as the #Chromebook. Do you think the Chromebook is the future of computing?

If there was a +1000 on this article I would click it! One of the best posts debunking all of the so called misconceptions of the Chromebook.

The internet is much more tolerable today since I have used FoxReplace to change every instance of "Apple Watch" with "Useless Doohickey" in the web pages I browser through.

Google News headlines:
"Useless Doohickey ready to start ticking."
"Useless Doohickey: Why you should buy one?"

Yeah, Firefox is the best choice in browsers, IMHO.

Congrats to Mozilla for the last 10 years.
For 10 years, Firefox has stayed non-profit, non-corporate, non-compromised. Choosing Firefox isn’t just choosing a browser. It’s a vote for personal freedom.

"Security is a process, not a product." It is worth everyone's time learning a bit about that process. :-)

Lately several stories make it sound like Linux has real security problems. Wrong! What is true is that some Linux users and administrators have been... well let's just say less than bright.
Summary: Linux is as secure as ever. The real security hole lies with some of Linux's administrators and users.

I always knew there was something fishy about long term forecasts. Exactly how I feel this time of year!
