Racing Extinction may be our last best hope to stop the 6th mass extinction
I am delighted to be involved with this important documentary. Racing Extinction is currently playing select screenings before hitting theaters this fall, and will be released in an unprecedented global broadcast event on the Discovery Channel later this year. #racingextinction   #extinction   #conservation   #wildlife

Looking forward to it! Unfortunately when something is rare it is 'more valuable' to certain people for the wrong reasons. There will always be people who don't care and will seek to profit :-(
Of course there is also the 'silent majority'  When I'd try to raise awareness most peoples responses were 'Oh it doesn't impact me'  etc. It's really discouraging.

A Real Candidate For Real People.

If we are going to get Bernie elected and end corruption, everyone needs to help out
The reason why big money wins so much of the time is because people don't do anything to stop it. Right now, we have such a corrupt campaign finance system that Jeb Bush's SuperPAC literally raked in over 100 million dollars last quarter. Conservative Republicans plan to BURY reformers in a blitzkrieg of negative ads fueled by dark money based on lies. That's their plan to win, and if you want to stop their scheme, it means getting personally involved.

Here are events you can take part in:
Host or attend an organizing meeting on July 29th http://go.berniesanders.com/page/s/organizing-meetings

Utterly delighted...
...that +SavingSpecies , the conservation organization of which I am Board Secretary has received this grant. It is truly a vindication and recognition of the hard work our team has put in over the past 5 years, and testimony to the leadership of Stuart Pimm, President of SavingSpecies. #conservation   #biodiversity   #leonardodicaprio   #wildlife   #environment

Very annoying to see +PBS NewsHour make an egregious error like this.
Judy Woodruff misrepresents Bernie Sanders' policy on taxes.

A glass jar with a lid works well and is easier to shake. And you don't need to hit the clove before shaking it.

Designers must account for instinctual physiological responses
According to the article: "Strictly speaking, our craving for natural light is properly termed “photophilia”, and that for natural environments “topophilia”. Nevertheless, it is useful to include all of these physiological responses under the broader term biophilia."  #design   #architecture   #biophilia

Flying Giraffe Monster
You might have seen pictures of pterosaurs, and thought cool. Here is a rendition of one group called Azhdarchids, to give you an idea of how enormous these flying creatures were. Imagine a flying giraffe and you'll have an idea. And oh, by the way, they weren't peaceful herbivores like giraffes. These monsters would eat anything, and you'd be a tasty snack. #Azhdarchids   #geology   #paleobiology   (Image courtesy of https://pterosaurs.wordpress.com/)

Introduction
Blast to the past
Born in England, raised in Africa. Wandered around Europe for a bit. Went to university and studied biology. Then I came to the States and studied more biology at the University of Oregon, where I developed skills in data analysis and advanced statistics.

After leaving Oregon, I led natural history and photography tours to the Amazon rainforest, culminating in the world's first travel guide to the Amazon, published 1997, with a third edition in 2007.

I love to write about the biggest jungle of them all, the Amazon rainforest. The third edition of my book The Amazon: The Bradt Travel Guide was published in August 2007.

My second travel guide, Amazon Highlights, was published February 2012 by the UK's Bradt Travel Publications. To share my love of the rainforest, I published my first website Jungle Photos in November 2000.

I've built on that experience to develop a unique perspective to the web and social media - a depth of experience I bring to bear in my professional work developing social media solutions.
Bragging rights
Traveled to 50+ countries. Wrote two travel guides to the Amazon rainforest. Started Jungle Photos website in 2000, still going strong! Developer of online learning materials for Discovery Education.
