Introducing the new Google Wallet Card

A friend sent you money through Google Wallet and it’s sitting in your Wallet Balance? Now, you can use the new Google Wallet Card to instantly spend your money in stores or withdraw cash at ATMs. The Google Wallet Card is a debit card that lets you quickly access your Wallet Balance, whether you’ve received it from a friend or added it directly from a linked bank account or credit/debit card. No more waiting for funds to transfer to your bank account.

Order the card for free at http://wallet.google.com/cardRequest or from the Google Wallet app for Android- goo.gl/WZkh3N. The newest release of the Google Wallet app for Android will be rolling out this week and we’ll let you know when it’s available to everyone.

Finally, an official phone-finding infrastructure from Google. Here's to hoping it works with tablets.

But can you beat up the people who hack their servers? I trust Google to have either the money and resources to catch those who hack their servers as well as to have enough other interesting users so that the chance of my data being examined closely upon being stolen approaches 0. Also, it's hard to beat free in terms of pricing.

Google+'ers who have XBL Gold accounts:
Crackdown is free on XBL until the end of the month. Go get it here http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/games-with-gold

Google+'ers who lack XBL Gold accounts yet have XB360s:
Here is a promo for free Gold for a month. Just add a payment method (paypal or credit card) and don't forget to cancel recurring payments after the 'transaction' goes through (for $0). This link can be reused an indefinite number of times after your account goes back to free status.

Those of you who use Google Maps on Android:

Today, Google released v7.0.0 of Maps for Android. It has all sorts of cool new features like customized offers, dynamic rerouting based on traffic, and a shiny new interface similar to the current beta of desktop maps. However, if you are one of the (I would guess many) people who use Latitude, Offline Maps, or My Places (and possibly other stuff I haven't noticed) you will be disappointed because both features have been removed / reworked from their previous incarnations.

Offline Maps: Gone are the days of being able to look around through your settings and options menus to find out how to do something. Now, map tiles can be cached in the app by typing the non-intuitive phrase ok maps while viewing the area that you intend to cache.

Latitude: The "friends on a map" functionality has been moved over to the Google+ app. You will need to install that if you do not already have it. The map itself is in the "Locations" section of the app interface. To set up sharing, set up a circle with your previous Latitude friends and enable sharing to that circle at the bottom of the Google+ settings page. https://www.google.com/settings/plus#location

My Places is also missing from the app, but I have yet to find a solution / replacement for that (aside from rolling back the apk); let me know if any of you have found something like that.
