Those of you who use Google Maps on Android:
Today, Google released v7.0.0 of Maps for Android. It has all sorts of cool new features like customized offers, dynamic rerouting based on traffic, and a shiny new interface similar to the current beta of desktop maps. However, if you are one of the (I would guess many) people who use Latitude, Offline Maps, or My Places (and possibly other stuff I haven't noticed) you will be disappointed because both features have been removed / reworked from their previous incarnations.Offline Maps:
Gone are the days of being able to look around through your settings and options menus to find out how to do something. Now, map tiles can be cached in the app by typing the non-intuitive phrase ok maps
while viewing the area that you intend to cache.Latitude:
The "friends on a map" functionality has been moved over to the Google+ app. You will need to install that if you do not already have it. The map itself is in the "Locations" section of the app interface. To set up sharing, set up a circle with your previous Latitude friends and enable sharing to that circle at the bottom of the Google+ settings page. https://www.google.com/settings/plus#locationMy Places
is also missing from the app, but I have yet to find a solution / replacement for that (aside from rolling back the apk); let me know if any of you have found something like that.
