I can’t believe that it is already the 25th of June, summer just got here, and the 4th of July is just around the corner. The only way you could not know about the walleye bite on Mille Lacs, you have been locked up in a closet with no communication from the outside world.

I hope there are not many of you suffering from that, but I have not seen many people up here and out on the water, with the Hottest Walleye bite in the state right now, there should be way more people on the water than there is.

I get it, that you would like to keep the fish you catch, but when it comes to the True sport of fishing, it is and has always been about the quality of the fish you are catching. If you have never had a fish over 28 inches pull on your line, it is a feeling you will find, that you want again and again.

It's called a FISHING ADDICTION! That’s ok for me, I will let them pull on my line all day long, but I am just a little bit apprehensive to say the least. You must have enough food for this to work out, and I don’t think that we will have enough to go around, with so many huge months to feed.

It will start to show its ugliness in less than 2 years, mark my words, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. I don’t believe that the state or the DNR they even give a dam anymore. All’s I can say is, if you are looking to get the fish of a lifetime at some point this open water season, you must make a trip up to the big lake for some real fun in the sun!

Now, for the Musky bite, it has been slow, with the water temps still below 75 degrees they are not very active as of yet, but that will all change overnight, as many of you what I fondly call The Musketeers know all to well.

Not much is happening with the Northern population as of late. That to will be changing over night as well. We will be fishing another Hunters Point Shootout again this year on Saturday, so wish us luck in the last tourney of the season. I do have a cabin cancelation for this weekend, so give me a call if you need one.

Be safe out there Boys and Girls, keep one eye on the water and the other eye on the fish!

I had a great week last week pre-fishing with a great friend of mine and my nephew from Indiana double dee for Dallas. He was the one that caught that 54 inch Musky with me and Gene Miller The Musky Killer last year at this time. It was a great week to be on the water finally after all of the late stuff we had to get done. We did really, great for all our pre-fish days, we were boating 30 to 40 fish a day and they were the ones we needed for the tournament.

That rarely happens when you need it and of course the bite changed just as we thought it might, being so close to the post spawn those fish where in transition to their summer haunts. So, we just tightened up the boot straps and never left our stuff. It was really tuff to do when the bite was so good just one day before the tourney and then it tanks. We caught just 15 fish on day one and only 13 fish on day too, but it was enough of the right bites to keep us in it on day one with a weight of 38.25.

The leading weight was 41.00lbs for day 1 which put us in 4th place Day 2 was a different story, we had our card filled by 10:30 with 35 lbs. of fish and just needed to upgrade one or 2 fish to feel that we still could pull this off and win this thing. Well it was 2;30 in the afternoon before we could upgrade a 26-inch fish to a 27 1/4-inch fish, a difference of 1.25 lbs. for that fish. That was the last upgrade for the day, with just 10 minutes to go, Jordon sticks a pig and it comes off 30 seconds later, oh my god is that a sick feeling, I did the same thing on day one in the afternoon.

We just had to be patient and know that those fish didn’t go far, so on the hunt we went for the big Piggy’s, it just was not going to happen that day, so we came in with 36.75 for day 2. Total weight for the 2 days was 75.00lbs, THAT IS TOTALLY OFF THE FREAKING CHARTS MAN! I have never ever seen weights like that, even on Lake Erie in the Spring doesn’t put up weights like we had in this tournament.

All right, let’s rap this one up for ya, we ended up with a 3-way tie for 3rd place with 2 other teams getting 75.00 lbs. I mean what are the odds of those weights of 75.00 lbs. even being close anyways. The wining weight was a whopping 81.25 lbs. for a 2 day eight. Wow, wow wow is all’s I can say to that, so if this has told you anything, it has told you that the lake is in great shape for numbers of big walleyes that normally would take you a lifetime to catch.

Right here on the Great Lake Mille Lacs is where it is happening in the state, you can bet on that. I know that Leech, Red Lake and Winni do and will never hold a candle to the quality of big walleyes that Mille Lacs Lake kicks out year in and year out for the past 5 years and especially this season, it is just way off the charts. So, you really need to make a reservation at Rocky Reef Resort this season, so you too can get your BITE ON!

That’s it at Rock central for now, I will keep you updated on the Spinner bite that should be happening soon now. We have not had a bug hatch yet this year, but it’s on its way, we could see the huge clouds coming up from the mud flats for the past few days, so it won’t be long, and the Midge hatch will be Humming. I will post some pics from our pre-fish days, so enjoy.
