Geevor Tin Mine on the North-Western end of Cornwall. Shut since 1990 but now a tourist attraction and center piece of a Unesco Heritage site. Geevor is fairly modern and complete as it closed so recently but you can stand on the coast or a few miles inland almost anywhere in this area and see abandoned mines in all directions dating back 100 years or more..

Because we had clear skies on Monday I decided to try another Milky Way shot. This was over the abandoned Wheal Prosper mine at Rinsey Head a couple of miles away from me. #Cornwall #Rinsey #Milky Way

I posted my first attempt at photographing the Milky way almost two months ago but forgot to post the follow up a few weeks later. I had a look at what I should have been doing and this is taken from Kynance Cove at about 1am. It was not the ideal location for that date as it turned out the light from the Lizard Lighthouse was visible. Also some low cloud on the horizon. Next time..! :-)

The Rage Below. This house is perched on a headland at Rinsey on the South coast. The views must be fantastic but there are times in bad weather when the waves throw spray right over the house.

I had to wait up until the early hours for my wife to return from a long trip so I went outside and had a go at photographing the Milky Way for the first time (I have only been taking photographs for about 45 years ;-) ). You can just make out the Milky Way and I think the central star is Deneb. I shall try this again next time the skies are clear and see if I can find somewhere scenic to use as a foreground.

The sea can be quite wild when the winds are strong in Cornwall. Praa Sands between Penzance & Helston.

Praa Sands at dawn yesterday. They said they expected the weather to deteriorate after a good start so I went down at 6:30am and was lucky to see the first signs of the coming front which always makes for more interesting skies. #Cornwall #Praa Sands

The new high speed train makes an early visit to Penzance so we can see what we will have next year. Here is its passing Marazion. They boast it will cut the journey times to London by 14 minutes which is not much in a 5 hour journey. Worse is that they are not stopping in Cornwall until Penzance which means skipping about 10 stations. I am pretty sure the existing old trains can shave off more than 14 minutes if they don't stop at those stations 😜

Been some nasty weather here in Cornwall this last week but often that brings unique photo ops. This is St Michaels Mount just before a storm arrived. #Cornwall

Praa Sands. My first attempt at a slow shutter speed and waves. I chose 1/2 second as I did not want to lose all the action in the waves. #Cornwall
