a blacksmiths labourer - Mali

This boy was working the bellows as his blacksmith employer hand shaped nails in a market area in Mopti. One could still see the huge salt slabs nearby that have been carried on the salt road for centuries. From my WORLD (mono) portrait album.

Pure Luxury

The feeling of a close shave is something I haven't experienced in decades but if I ever decide to drop the beard this is the way to go. This is in India where I will be returning toward the end of the year leading a photo tour. Stay tuned or get email notifications via this link. http://robertvankoesveld.com/new-photography-tours-be-updated/

Ganga Aarti

I just completed a multimedia photo movie of stills and ambient audio on the Aarti ceremony on the ghats at Varanasi, India from material I gathered on my recent trip.  It's up on my Vimeo channel.  I'll post a copy to YouTube sometime later.  Enjoy.

Confident Cameleer

An image from 2001. Shot on slide film (those were the days) in the early morning at the Pushkar camel festival, India. You can see the rising sun in his eyes. It was wonderful to be wandering in the smoky early morning air with these proud and handsome men and 50,000 equally proud camels all around you.

The trip was a good lesson in how doable it is to get to special places at special times like this festival ,so long as you are willing to adapt in terms of accommodation and transport. As well as how, if you want to get to festivals whose dates are set by astronomers, you also have to adapt your work around them not fit them in typical holiday times.

Morning Light in the Garden      added to my HOME series on G+.
A somewhat obscure image of the play of light in my garden. Autumn mornings can be very special. This is a series album that now has 16 images. I enjoy the pace of occasionally adding to this album which is something you can do when it's home. Click through to album.

The Circle Train
The circle train in Yangon carries around 150000 people daily as it makes it slow and rattly way around a 45.9 km circuit. Foreigners need to buy a special ticket which is a little more than the (approx) 10-20cent tickets locals purchase. There are 39 stations.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yangon_Circular_Railway
I wasn't sure which item to place this but settled on My STREET colour album on G+
