The Justice Department wants to streamline deportations so that illegal immigrants can be deported immediately after they finish their prison sentence.  At the moment, ex-convicts can spend months in ICE facilities while their deportation hearing progresses. Jeff Session, the new AG, intends to expand the Institution Hearing Program established in 2006.

The border wall cost is becoming a matter of discussion as Congress approaches funding discussion deadline. April 28 is the last date for approving a spending bill that will fund federal agencies that otherwise would be shut down. Therefore the request for $1.5 extra funds this year to finance the initial phase of wall construction along the Mexican border might be turned down.

The travel ban legal battle is ready to resume in Maryland and in Virginia. The revised travel ban is approaching the first appeal in Virginia and Republican Attorney Generals move to support it. The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals will decide on a stay of the restraining order in the first week of April.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announces major action against sanctuary cities in the US. He will use all of the lawful authority they have to make sure that state and local officials are in synch with the Federal government. Money that goes for law enforcement will only go to cities that participate in an effective collegial, cooperative way with the Federal government.
