With the commission abandoning hopes for saving the Union House, it leaves just 3 disputed historical properties in the MGM Springfield footprint.
After spending time examining the Union House in person with MGM representatives and witnessing a collapsing floor, leaking roof and renovations which destroyed almost all the original 1846 architectural elements, the commission conceded the city would be best served to let the building go without a fight.

After voicing concerns that a Republican-controlled Congress will aim to slash the already stagnant level of medical research funding in the United States, Sen. Elizabeth Warren is taking action.
Next week in the Senate, the Massachusetts Democrat will introduce the Medical Innovation Act to ensure that despite Washington's endless cycle of power shifts, life-saving medical research will continue to be funded to what she argues is everyone's benefit.

A Springfield bakery's cupcakes are again on the line as Mass. Gov. Charlie Baker has a friendly bet with Indiana's Gov. Mike Pence over this weekend's AFC Championship Game.
Should the Colts dash the Patriots' Super Bowl hopes on Sunday, Baker must pony up a Super Bowl themed cake from Montilio's Baking Company in Brockton and a box of Boston Cream Pie cupcakes from the Koffee Kup Bakery in Springfield.

Elizabeth Warren says the push for her to mount a 2016 presidential run is all about her message, but her supporters see much more than good talking points in the Massachusetts senator.
When asked to react to the fact that tens of thousands wanted her to run for president, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren said she feels the movement isn't so much about the messenger as it is the message.

Inspired in part by his concerns over the nation's foreign policy, the infamous anti-gay Springfield pastor is now considering a run for Congress.

With just over a month until he has to vacate the premises due to the pending MGM Springfield casino, Sheriff Michael Ashe says the future of one of his most successful programs is in jeopardy.
While MGM Springfield has purchased every piece of property they need to build their $800 million resort casino in downtown Springfield, it seems the company's plan could kill a successful program managed by the Hampden County Sheriff's Office.

I stayed here while in the area for the 2012 presidential debate at Hofstra University. The whole hotel looked like it was remodeled recently and my room was comfortable with a nice bathroom. The wi-fi was a bit sluggish at times but other than that, I had no complaints about the amenities. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful and made sure I had everything I needed. After returning back to the facility late after the debate concluded, they helped me find something to eat, which wasn't easy with nearly everything in the area closed. I'd stay there again and recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, modernized hotel at a reasonable price.

I needed the mirror replaced in an antique bathroom medicine cabinet and I was pointed in the direction of Chase Glass. I walked in the door and was greeted by a nice girl and paid up front. They had it finished in under an hour and it cost less than $30. They treated my property with great care and the staff was professional and courteous. To top it off, the price was very agreeable.

I needed to replace one tire after a blowout and Warren and the crew at City Tire on Avocado Street took good care of me. They matched the new tire to the ones already on the car and had me out of there within an hour after walking in without an appointment. I will return there for tires as well as front-end service in the future.
