"You a Yankees fan?"

"Of course!"

"Wanna picture of my hat?"

"Certainly."

SANPO is a neat little site that lets you share your photowalk routes, and the photos you take during your walks. Check it out, and maybe help it get started!

To most people, the idea of photographing people playing video games doesn't sound very appealing. Most people's experience of watching people game involves kids sitting slack-jawed staring at a TV. But throw ego, reputation, thousands in prize money and an international audience into the mix ... well, things can get real interesting real fast.

I don't think I could have asked for a better moment than this. Sadness, anger, joy, and awe all in a single shot. My only regret is not having a wider lens, to capture all the other people crowded around!

The scene is from a video game tournament called Apex, which features games like Smash Bros, Street Fighter, and other fighting games. The player in the striped shirt goes by the handle Ocean, and came to the tournament from Japan. The player in the plaid shirt goes by M2K and is widely regarded as the best Smash Bros player in the country.

Suffice to say, Ocean's win was quite an upset.

I saw the video of this the other day and that moment was simply explosive. I really didn't think there could be so much energy in gaming. (incidentally, I think the American kid was doomed when the crowd started chanting, "Ocean! Ocean!") This really is an awesome shot, you captured that exact moment of revelation on everybody's' faces with all the attendant emotion, and what's more, it gives insight into a subculture most people will never experience.

NJ Meadowlands, 4/12/12

Not bad for a northern New Jersey sunset, right? I knew by the on/off rain during the day that the sunset would be pretty nice, and the drive home from work confirmed it (alas, driving on Rt 3 gives you plenty of time to look around). So I grabbed the camera and drove back to Secaucus ... was anxious about how quickly the clouds were moving, but the trek turned out to be worth it.

Had the opportunity to do some studio shooting for the first time recently. Fairly happy with the results, but man what a different beast it is compared to the "shoot from the hip" stuff I'm used to doing...

C&C also welcome, if you have any thoughts. #photography

My brother makes knives. I make photos. So I did what I do while he did what he does.
