+Raymond Ashby I must admit that I was more concerned in this video with how the mechanical internals of the clock worked and not so much the circuit board. All you really need to know about the circuit board is that it uses a small amount of battery power to cause a solenoid to flip-flop in two different directions once per second and it uses a quartz crystal to get the timing correct. I intend to look more into the electrical parts of this circuit in the future but for this video I thought it was out of scope.

Moriarty, feel for you, this was a brilliant explanation and caused me to rethink what contact means. The state where the forces balance. I agree with Brady that most people would think of contact as what the state of nothing separating two objects; as a lack of a gap between the two. But I think that idea way always mislead and it does not even hold for the easily observable world.

My finger is in contact with the wall when the parts of my finger that touch the wall are always repelled back to the same "balance" point. I really hope that I understand this properly because I felt that the discussion was really an argument between the true definition of contact and the commonly held one (which does not really exist, it just looks correct. Just like Newtonian physics looks correct at our level but breaks down eventually).

Perfect timing with this video. Keep up the great work! Mars is really interesting. This video should have had a cameo from Hank Green though. Missed your chance. :)

It's 2014 and I have just finished watching all 42 of your World History Crash Course videos. They are, in a word, fantastic. I wish that history had been presented to me in this manner as I had been going through my high school education.

I just want to say a very big thank you to the sheer amount of time and effort that you have poured into these videos. I recommend to most people that I meet that they should watch this youtube channel. Please keep making great videos.

I am thinking that it would be great to get a closer view of the magnetic field surrounding the pinion gear of the quartz clock. I might do that myself soon.
