"Beyond a bit of pro-labor candy to make the Olympic analogy concrete, what the ad mostly does is steer way clear of a highly taboo media and cultural subject — one that has been otherwise smoldering all year and has, at least briefly, seared a hole through the college sports empire. And what’s that? It’s the power relationship between the sports industrial complex and major corporate advertisers designed to enrich each other (especially by way of this two-week media orgy every four years) with largely unpaid athletes providing the product and pumped-up fans in the summer doldrums providing the eyeballs."

The truth is no portrait of substance has people smiling. Look at the history of painting, Rembrandt, Titian, Goya, Velasquez, Sargent, Vermeer, DaVinci, etc., the subjects gaze to the viewer is neutral at best, neither inviting nor forbidding. It is there for the viewer to see and feel. Smiling is like much of American popular culture, superficial and misleading. It is part of our vernacular, but it should be expunged in photographs. – Rodney Sm...

I like the point, but I thought it was because (a) they had such bad dental hygiene back then and (b) paintings took so long to do, it was too hard to hold a smile for that long?

A blog post on my study in composition with my iPhone and Instagram
I wrote a post a while back stating how useful a tool the camera phone is in studying composition. The iPhone 4 with its apps makes it great for post processing the photos as well. It truly is ...

Yeah there was no internet at most of the places we went to. Plus I tried to avoid going on it.

I ask because your photos are better than a lot of the wedding photographers we saw and it wouldn't take too much effort (I assume) to make it into an album and charge a lot for it :D... especially if you use an Indian company to print it :p

Thomas Hawk originally shared:

A Wordle of Steve Jobs' famous 2005 Stanford Commencement Address. Full transcript here: http://news.stanford.edu/news/2005/june15/jobs-061505.html

I thought it fitting that "life" was the most used word of all in his address.

Very ordinary and not what you'd expect given the price. Wouldn't bother given Fergburger is down the road.
