Thought-provoking read. Long-ish as to be expected from The New Yorker, but worth the time.
From their backgrounds to their motivations, the two men have some striking differences.

Are we simulated?

Luckily, this is much more easily answered for Go's exact numeric constants. An ingenious experiment to probe the mathematical fabric reveals the truth...

Any result shy of infinity (unlimited precision) indicates a simulation.

(Original source: https://golang.org/test/fixedbugs/issue7740.go, originally by +Russ Cox I believe).
Abstract: Observable consequences of the hypothesis that the observed universe is a numerical simulation performed on a cubic space-time lattice or grid are explored. The simulation scenario is first motivated by extrapolating current trends in computational resource requirements for lattice QCD ...

Absolutely space-bending!
Scientists say they heard the faint chirp of two black holes colliding a billion light-years away, fulfilling Einstein’s general theory of relativity.

Go gets its own fonts!
Go fonts. 16 November 2016. An Announcement. The experimental user interface toolkit being built at golang.org/x/exp/shiny includes several text elements, but there is a problem with testing them: What font should be used? Answering this question led us to today's announcement, the release of a ...

The choice of only half of the 2x2 matrix of serif by proportionality seems very weird. Is this a first toe in the water or a completed play?

Instead of removing the members of Congress which for years have blocked any sensible progress and are only beholden to the money of special interests, half of all Americans have given up completely by electing a lunatic who is only beholden to himself, to rule them all.

Reality TV has become disturbing reality. Wake up, people!

Fascism is not our future—it cannot be; we cannot allow it to be so—but this is surely the way fascism can begin, David Remnick writes.

Was lange währt wird endlich gut!
Go 1.5 is released. 19 August 2015. Today the Go project is proud to release Go 1.5, the sixth major stable release of Go. This release includes significant changes to the implementation. The compiler tool chain was translated from C to Go, removing the last vestiges of C code from the Go code ...

+Kenneth Russell Actually a fairly major technical step: The Go compiler (originally written in C) was mostly automatically translated to Go (several tens of thousands of lines of code) and is now much more amenable to upgrades and code improvements (which it desperately needs). The runtime (including the garbage collector) is now all written in Go. And none of the standard libraries use any (lib) C at all (that was always the case, but it's perhaps not obvious). It's Go all the way!
