Is Donald Trump clinically sane? Seriously.
This morning my inbox contained three fascinating items. One was forwarded to me by a friend from what I thought of when I was growing up as "our neighbor to the North," Wisconsin. It's an article from the Right Wisconsin, Charlie Sykes' magazine, written b...

The purge begins: the inside story on the Trump putsch in Cleveland and beyond
Well, I just got off the phone after the conference call with Regina Thomson of Free the Delegates and other leaders of the anti-Trump movement among the delegates to what is referred to as a convention last week. I finally have the story straight- and it's...

Trump to Cruz: 'I wouldn't accept your stupid endorsement anyway. So there. Nahhhhh!'
Anybody else think it's strange that the Trumpmeister should a nnounce that he won't accept an endorsement Ted Cruz isn't going to offer? That's childish even for Il Duce. How exactly does one "accept" an endorsement? And did he stick his tongue out after s...

How is the reaction of intelligent, informed people to Trump's acceptance speech like James Bond's martinis?
They're shaken, not stirred.

Hey, Trumpkins... remember this?
Remarkable how convenient people's memories can be. Here's Donald Trum- renouncing his own pledge to support the Republican nominee and saying of Ted Cruz "he doesn't have to support me."

I never thought I'd say this, but three cheers for Ted Cruz
It seems that the Trump folks actually OKed Ted Cruz's "vote your conscience" speech tonight on the theory that it would make Cruz a pariah! I wonder what it is that makes people who support Donald Trump- even at the highest levels of his campaign- so delus...

Another retraction
Donald Trump did indeed imply during the debates that Supreme Court justices sign bills and conduct investigations. But turns out that I misread an article and quoted Trump as saying that lawyers are public employees. The comment was made by a Trump support...

Hillary-like, Trump's staff lets his acceptance speech leak ahead of time
It's not just that amateur speech writers use plagiarism in writing speeches for his wife. Trump's staff has allowed the text of the speeches of various speakers at the convention to leak ahead of time. For example, here' a draft of his acceptance speech to...

Hold on to your hat: NASA may just have discovered warp drive!
Nothing can travel faster than light. To simply reach C, as the speed of light is known, infinite energy would be required. Also, time slows down as C is approached to the point at which finally burning that last drop of fuel would literally take forever. G...

A sometime Lutheran pastor, an amateur astronomer, a history buff, and a lifetime fan of the Blackhawks, Bears and Cubs.
Introduction
I'm a retired Lutheran minister who was born and raised in Chicago, attended college in the Chicago area, and received my M.Div. from a seminary in Iowa. I was active in the Independent Movement in Chicago during the Seventies and have served as a delegate to the state conventions of both parties in Iowa, as well as serving on the Polk County Republican Central Committee. I'm concerned about the polarization of politics in America, the increasing extremism of both parties, and what I see as a growing intellectual and ethical nihilism in our culture. I am currently a registered Independent, and will NOT vote for either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton this November!
Bragging rights

Taught a course on Astronomy, Science Fiction and Space Travel for Des Moines Public Schools Talented and Gifted Program's January Institute for several years.
