If we are to have peace on earth, our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional. Our loyalties must transcend our race, our tribe, our class, and our nation; and this means we must develop a world perspective. - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Georgia 1967

On Saturday August 29th join us as we set out to feed our city's homeless. For this month's event we will be focusing on the city's youth. The largest and most important safety net for homeless children & youth is the public school system, which provides both basic services as well as the education that is necessary to avoid poverty as adults.

Hashtaglunchbag Chicago wants to help those children in need by giving them school supplies to support their efforts. We hope to collect enough school supplies to last the entire school year. All supplies are accepted including (but not limited to) notebooks, pencils, pens, book bags, glue, crayons, highlighters, folders, index cards, rulers, sharpeners, and binders.

We will be collecting and distributing the supplies to several shelters at our next #Hashtaglunchbag event, next Saturday at The Promontory (5311 S Lake Park Ave) on August 29th. The event starts at 9am. If you are willing to collect items are your business or office, please let us know.

The last year and a half of my life I told myself something had to change. And though I may have taken steps backwards with regard to some things, the experience I’ve had with #hashtaglunchbag has pushed me to take steps forward. Being part of a movement like this has kept me humble through the trying times of these most recent months. I’ve even grown in a few of my creative talents (photography and video).

Thank you God for #hashtaglunchbag, and thank you friends / families / volunteers who have made this movement what it is. Whether you’re in LA or Chicago, NY, or any of the other cities where our presence is felt – I have nothing but respect and love for you.
