Don't forget us.

Usually the men would emigrate first and then later send for their wives. These young women never knew if they would be sent for or abandoned. In this postcard photo, one woman, my grandmother, decided it was time to remind her husband that they were still waiting back in Sassinoro. On the back of the card she wrote : "Accept these sincere regards from your wife Caterina and thousands of kisses from our Concettina five years old. 1926." Her message was formal, she even used last names.
While this photograph was taken in Italy I have also put it in the "Vintage America" set, since it is as much an American as an Italian story.
Soon after this postcard arrived, my grandmother and my aunt left for New York.
