37 seconds of Wisdom from José Mujica
former President of Uruguay.

He has been described as "the world's 'humblest' president" due to his austere lifestyle and his donation of around 90 percent of his $12,000 monthly salary to charities that benefit poor people and small entrepreneurs. (Wikipedia)

Transcript of his speech:
"We invented a mountain of superfluous needs.
You have to keep buying, throwing away …
It´s our life we are squandering.
When i buy something, or when you buy it,
we´re not paying with money.
We´re paying with the time from our lives we had to spend to earn that money.
The difference is that you can´t buy life.
Life just goes by.
And it´s terrible to waste your life losing your freedom."

- José Mujica

Does Language Influence Culture?

Oh yes, new cognitive research suggests that language profoundly influences the way we see the world.

"All this new research shows us that the languages we speak not only reflect or express our thoughts, but also shape the very thoughts we wish to express. The structures that exist in our languages profoundly shape how we construct reality, and help make us as smart and sophisticated as we are."

ALMA rewrites history of Universe's stellar baby boom
March 13th marked the formal commissioning of the Atacama Large Millimetre Array (ALMA), a 66-dish radio telescope located high in the Chilean desert. It is the biggest radio telescope in the world, designed to explore the universe at wavelengths invisible to the human eye. Among other things, astronomers hope that ALMA will reveal the birth of stars and planets in unprecedented detail

"Be curious. Read widely. Try new things.
I think a lot of what people call intelligence just boils down to curiosity."
